What is a HELOC?

A HELOC, or Home Equity Line of Credit, is a revolving line of credit secured by your home. It allows homeowners to borrow against the equity they've built up in their property, typically for home improvements, debt consolidation, or other major expenses. Unlike a traditional loan, you can draw funds as needed up to a certain limit, and you pay interest only on the amount you use. HELOCs usually have variable interest rates and a draw period followed by a repayment period.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in HELOC roles, and how can they overcome them?

Professionals in HELOC roles often encounter challenges such as staying up-to-date with changing lending regulations, accurately assessing client eligibility, and managing fluctuating application volumes. To overcome these, it is crucial to maintain ongoing education about compliance requirements, utilize robust financial analysis tools, and communicate clearly with clients and team members. Building strong collaborative relationships with underwriters and loan processors also helps streamline the approval process and ensures a positive customer experience.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) loan officer?

To thrive as a HELOC Loan Officer, you need a solid understanding of mortgage lending, credit analysis, and financial regulations, typically supported by experience in banking or finance and, in some cases, state licensing. Familiarity with loan origination software, credit reporting systems, and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms is essential. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help build trust and ensure accurate processing of loan applications. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering excellent customer service, ensuring compliance, and closing loans efficiently in a competitive financial services market.

GreenSky LLC, headquartered in Atlanta, is a leading technology company Powering Commerce at the Point of Sale for a growing ecosystem of merchants, consumers, and banks. GreenSky's highly scalable, proprietary and patented technology platform enables merchants to offer frictionless promotional payment options to consumers, driving increased sales volume and accelerated cash flow. The GreenSky Program is operated on behalf of, and financing is offered and made by, federally insured, federal or state chartered financial institutions, which leverage GreenSky's technology to offer and make loans to primarily super-rime and prime consumers nationwide. Position: Director of Sales. HELOC

Location: Remote (must be near a major travel hub)

Travel Required: 50% travel for face-to-face time with prospects, industry events, and job-site walkthroughs. Overnight travel as needed.

Overview:

GreenSky is seeking a Director of Sales - HELOC to drive new client acquisition for GreenSky's HELOC financing solution within the high-job-size Home Improvement vertical. This is a field-based, outside sales role focused on securing contracts with merchants running large-scope, high-ticket projects, including Design-Build firms, pool builders, ADU (accessory dwelling unit) builders, and shed/outdoor structure manufacturers, where project sizes regularly exceed what point-of-sale unsecured financing alone can support. While new client acquisition is the primary mandate, the Director will also activate HELOC across GreenSky's existing high-job-size merchant base, where large-project flows make current merchants, natural adopters.

This is an individual contributor, quota-carrying role, with a defined trajectory toward team leadership. As the HELOC book of business and territory grows, top performers in this seat will be considered to lead a team of several sellers, taking on coaching and pipeline oversight responsibilities in addition to their own book.

Duties & Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual who has high energy, a will to win, and a tenacious work ethic to succeed. This is a territory-based, acquisition-focused position targeting high-job-size home improvement merchants, with unlimited opportunity given the right amount of focus, hard work, and determination. This individual will also be responsible for nurturing and growing the business following the sale, and for training merchant sales teams to introduce HELOC financing and invite customers into the application experience on high-price-point projects. The Director will partner closely with GreenSky's licensed Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) team, which handles all consumer-facing loan discussions; this role operates within program compliance guardrails and does not present loan terms or take applications.

  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships at industry events (e.g., design-build, pool, and outdoor living trade shows) to generate net-new business opportunities and expand market presence.
  • Working knowledge of HELOC and home equity lending fundamentals (underwriting basics, appraisal/valuation triggers, funding timelines) sufficient to credibly sell against project-size objections.
