Job description

Bessemer Trust is seeking a Hedge Fund Research Analyst to join its Hedge Fund team in New York. This role is ideal for an early-career investment professional with approximately 0-3 years of relevant experience who is interested in hedge fund investing, portfolio analytics, risk management, and investment due diligence.

The analyst will play an integral role within the hedge fund program, supporting portfolio management, manager due diligence, risk monitoring, performance analysis, and reporting activities. Working closely with senior investment professionals, the successful candidate will help maintain the analytical and operational infrastructure that supports investment decision-making across a diversified portfolio of hedge fund managers.

Role Responsibilities

Portfolio Analytics & Risk Management

  • Maintain and monitor portfolio, manager, and market data across investment systems and databases.
  • Perform quantitative analysis of hedge fund managers and portfolios, including performance, risk, correlation, exposure, attribution, and drawdown analysis.
  • Assist with portfolio liquidity monitoring, cash management, and subscription/redemption tracking.
  • Support the preparation of portfolio risk reports and related analytics for investment professionals and senior management.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data utilized in investment analysis and reporting.

Investment Due Diligence

  • Support quantitative due diligence efforts for prospective hedge fund investments.
  • Attend meetings with prospective and existing hedge fund managers, prepare detailed meeting notes, and share with the team.
  • Analyze manager performance, portfolio characteristics, peer group comparisons, and risk metrics.
  • Assist with onboarding new hedge fund investments and maintaining investment records across internal systems.
  • Participate in the ongoing monitoring of existing managers and portfolio holdings.

Reporting & Communications

  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports, presentations, and investment materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Support the production of quarterly letters, portfolio reviews, investment committee materials, and client communications.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and presentation quality across all published materials.
  • Respond to routine inquiries regarding portfolio performance, holdings, and reporting data.

Data & Vendor Management

  • Maintain hedge fund databases, reporting systems, and analytical tools.
  • Reconcile and validate data across multiple internal and external sources.
  • Coordinate with third-party data providers and technology vendors to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Assist with testing, implementation, and enhancement of analytical and reporting platforms.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with investment, finance, operations, compliance, and client-facing teams.
  • Support portfolio management activities and ensure consistency of information across departments.
  • Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 0-3 years of experience in asset management, hedge funds, investment consulting, fund administration, performance reporting, investment banking, equity research, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Understanding of financial markets, investment concepts, and portfolio analytics.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with financial databases and analytical tools is preferred.
  • Experience leveraging large language models (LLMs) and AI-based tools to enhance research, analytical, reporting, or operational workflows is a plus.
  • Exposure to Python, SQL, VBA, Power BI, or similar technologies is a plus.
  • Progress toward CFA or CAIA designation is a plus.

The base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $105,000 per year. This range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. In addition, this position may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, and other compensation programs as applicable. Eligible employees may participate in a 401(k) program with a generous profit-sharing contribution, medical, prescription dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; disability coverage; paid holidays; vacation; and sick time, subject to plan terms and Company policies.
