Our Hearing Health and Hearing Science teams drive the design, development, and integration of the next generation of hearing health features, including the Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features on AirPods Pro. We are searching for a passionate engineer, scientist, or technologist to help take hearing health to the next level by designing, prototyping, and evaluating new audio algorithms and listening experiences.
Description
Are you passionate about solving the cocktail party problem and empowering millions of people to communicate with ease in noisy environments? Do you like to find innovative solutions to translate scientific knowledge into revolutionary products? As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will apply your knowledge of hearing science and audio engineering to the design and development of next-generation features-from the idea phase all the way to released products. This role involves an exciting mix of developing and iterating on prototypes, designing studies, analyzing data, and integrating audio algorithms. Whether you are working with prototype hardware and acoustic test equipment, or implementing state-of-the-art technologies to address hearing aid users' needs, you will have the opportunity to work across Apple to bring your ideas to life.
Minimum Qualifications
MS or PhD specializing in hearing science, audio engineering, acoustics, human-centered design, or similar. Intimate understanding of hearing aid users' needs and hearing loss assessment methods.
Solid foundations in human hearing: physiology, auditory pathways, psychoacoustics.
Strong foundations in acoustics and audio signal processing.
Familiarity with objective/subjective methods for evaluating audio technologies and proficiency with data analysis.
Proficiency in high-level programming and coding, such as Python or MATLAB.
Practical experience bringing concepts to user-facing features through definition, prototyping, implementation, and integration.
Excellent written and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with multidisciplinary team members.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of industry experience in hearing technology, preferably within consumer electronics.
Understanding of state-of-the-art hearing assistive technologies: features and algorithms.
In-depth experience applying signal processing and machine learning techniques for audio enhancements in the context of speech communication or music listening.
Familiarity with fundamental acoustic measurements (such as speaker and microphone calibration).
Ability to work independently to solve complex technical problems.
Critical listening skills.
