Position Summary
The Director of Healthcare Support Services provides senior-level operational and financial leadership for ABM's Healthcare Food & Nutrition Services and Environmental Services (EVS) programs across a national portfolio of acute care and specialty hospital accounts. This role partners closely with Operations, Sales, and executive leadership to ensure consistent service delivery, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and strong client engagement across complex healthcare environments.
The Director serves as a trusted operational leader, supporting multi-site teams, driving best practices, and ensuring high standards of service excellence for hospital clients. This position requires a hands-on leadership approach, strong healthcare operations expertise, and the ability to operate effectively across geographically dispersed accounts while maintaining strong relationships with client executives and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Service Delivery
  • Provide senior-level operational leadership for Healthcare Food & Nutrition Services and Environmental Services (EVS) across assigned hospital accounts.
  • Ensure consistent execution of contracted services, operational standards, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with regional and site leadership to support operational continuity and service excellence across complex healthcare environments.
  • Support the implementation and standardization of programs related to food quality, patient experience, retail services, EVS quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen staffing models, workflows, and compliance practices to enhance overall performance.

Financial & Contract Management
  • Demonstrate strong contract management and healthcare operations expertise.
  • Drive financial performance across accounts, including labor management, expense control, and margin optimization.
  • Support organic growth initiatives and value-based performance goals.
  • Participate in new account costing, proposal development, and transition planning as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to financial controls, payroll accuracy, and contractual commitments.

People Leadership
  • Lead and support a team of Operations Managers, Directors, Project Managers, and site leadership, with indirect oversight of large frontline teams.
  • Provide effective leadership within unionized healthcare environments, including working knowledge of CBAs and labor relations practices.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop leaders to build bench strength and support succession planning.
  • Participate in talent selection, performance management, and leadership development initiatives.

Client Relations & Account Retention
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital executives, clinical leadership, and key client stakeholders.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex operational or service concerns.
  • Support account retention efforts through visible leadership presence, service consistency, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Represent ABM as a trusted healthcare services partner with deep operational knowledge.

Project Management & Transitions
  • Support account start-ups, service transitions, and operational enhancement initiatives across Food, Nutrition, and EVS programs.
  • Oversee implementation of new service models, technologies, and operational processes.
  • Coordinate with internal partners including HR, Finance, Facilities, and external vendors.
  • Support project timelines, staffing models, and transition budgets as required.
  • Contribute to capital planning related to equipment needs and operational improvements.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field required.
  • Extensive healthcare operations experience supporting Food & Nutrition Services and/or Environmental Services (EVS).
  • Proven multi-site leadership experience within acute care or complex healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in unionized settings.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, state health departments).
  • Experience with healthcare contract services

Certifications (Preferred)
  • Certified Food Service Professional (CFSP)
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP)
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) preferred when combined with strong operational leadership experience

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel nationwide (up to 50-75%)
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
