Job description

Position Description:

The Senior Clinical Risk Manager evaluates actual or potential safety events within the hospital. They participate in the development of corrective action plans and performance improvement initiatives to mitigate present and future risk. They oversee reporting to regulatory bodies as required. They represent the hospitals Risk Management Department on select committees.

Required Qualifications of Position:

Education: Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred

Field of study: Nursing

Experience: Minimum 10 Years of experience in healthcare risk management required, with prior work experience as a Registered Nurse

Licenses: n/a

Certifications: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Champions and supports Risk Management, Quality Management, Performance Improvement, and Patient & Family Experience with other staff and through engagement on various committees.

  • Identifies, investigates and analyzes actual or potential safety events to determine trends or patterns, litigation potential and appropriate actions to prevent future occurrences.

  • Embodies compassion and empathy when working with staff, patients, and visitors, especially while investigating or assisting with mitigation of events.

  • Participates in systematic event analyses and patient care conferences between multidisciplinary care teams to facilitate communication in a safe environment and identify areas of opportunity.

  • Ensures reports on incidents and events are submitted, tracked, investigated, and completed as required by state and federal statutes and regulatory rules and regulations.

  • Develops strategies and timelines for managing patient safety and performance improvement initiatives including identifying stakeholders/resources, developing and implementing protocols and tracking outcomes for effectiveness.

  • Takes a lead role in organizing monthly High Reliability Committee meeting agendas, including analyzing event data for presentation to the committee.

  • Identifies and provides education on risk management, risk prevention and patient safety initiatives.

  • Collaborates with Patient & Family Experience staff to investigate clinical complaints and provide timely feedback to patients, family, and staff.

  • Participates in on-call Risk Management coverage.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to Risk Management within the hospital.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
