Job description

IPS is built on a foundation of strong leadership, guided by our shared values of safety, accountability, integrity, teamwork, entrepreneurial spirit, and customer-focus. As a senior leader at IPS, you’ll be able to shape strategic initiatives, inspire teams, and influence the future of our organization.

We are looking for servant leaders who have an action-oriented and committed to delivering unmatched customer and employee experiences. Your leadership will drive transformative projects, redefine industry standards, and leave a lasting legacy.

At IPS, you’ll find a platform for high potential growth, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. If you’re ready to lead with vision and inspire innovation, apply now and become a key player in our journey to redefine success!

Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Vice President of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) serves as the enterprise leader responsible for building and sustaining a world-class safety culture across IPS. Reporting directly to the Chief Performance Officer, this executive will lead a geographically dispersed team of site, regional, and divisional HSE professionals while ensuring IPS maintains a relentless focus on critical risk management, leadership accountability, talent development, and operational excellence - with the understanding that safety excellence and business performance are inseparable.

  • Lead and continuously improve IPS's enterprise HSE strategy in support of operational excellence, growth, and business performance.
  • Build a high-performing HSE leadership team.
  • Provide leadership and direction to regional and divisional HSE leaders while establishing clear accountability and performance expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Performance Officer, Division Presidents, and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Drive a proactive culture focused on critical risk management, learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead enterprise initiatives involving electrical safety, energized work, arc flash protection, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, lifting and rigging, driving safety, contractor safety, and field service operations.
  • Ensure strong governance and consistent execution of HSE standards across all divisions, service centers, and field operations.
  • Develop executive-level reporting and dashboards that provide meaningful visibility into both leading indicators (observations, near-miss rates, safety conversation frequency, audit closure) and lagging indicators, emerging risks, and organizational capability.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action programs, and enterprise-wide learning initiatives.
  • Partner with Operations, HR, Legal, Risk Management, and CIPS leaders to strengthen safety performance and operational discipline.
  • Embed IPS safety culture as a foundational integration priority in acquired businesses - not a post-close afterthought - ensuring standards and accountability are established.
  • Set non-negotiable safety performance standards and hold leaders at every level accountable with the same rigor applied to financial and operational results; escalate concerns and stop work when necessary - regardless of organizational level.
  • Represent IPS with customers, regulators, industry organizations, and external stakeholders as a senior executive leader.
  • Build safety leadership capability in operational leaders - Division Presidents, Service Center GMs, and field supervisors - ensuring every leader is equipped and expected to drive safety performance, not just the HSE team.
  • Leverage technology and predictive analytics to drive proactive risk identification, digital safety workflows, and real-time performance visibility across the enterprise.
What Success Looks Like:
  • IPS demonstrates measurable year-over-year improvement in both leading and lagging safety performance indicators, with zero critical incidents as the standard, while strengthening operational execution and uptime.
  • The HSE organization is viewed as a strategic business partner and trusted advisor to operations.
  • Enterprise safety standards are consistently executed across all business units and acquired companies.
  • Safety leadership is scalable and capable of supporting significant organizational growth and future ownership transitions.
  • Executive leadership, employees, customers, and investors view IPS as an industry leader in safety performance and risk management.
  • A robust leading indicator program - behavioral observations, near-miss reporting, safety conversation frequency, and audit closure rates - is active across all divisions and demonstrably driving proactive risk reduction.
  • Safety metrics are embedded in operational leader scorecards and performance evaluations enterprise-wide, reinforcing safety as a core leadership competency alongside financial and operational results.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Management, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive HSE leadership experience within industrial, manufacturing, power systems, utility, energy, field service, or related environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-site HSE organizations across geographically dispersed operations.
  • Experience scaling organizations through growth, acquisitions, integrations, and organizational transformation.
  • Strong understanding of industrial risk management involving electrical systems, energized work, rotating equipment, field service operations, heavy lifting, and contractor management.
  • Proven ability to build safety leadership capability in both HSE professionals and operational leaders, develop successors, and create sustainable talent pipelines throughout the organization.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through leaders rather than direct ownership of day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, change management, and organizational development skills.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CUSP, CHMM, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel 40-60% throughout North America and the UK to support service centers, field operations, customer sites, acquisition integrations, leadership development, and safety initiatives.
