Location: Hennick Humber Hospital, Wilson Site

Salary: $49.919 - $62.438

Humber River Health is seeking a RN Results Expediter for our Emergency Department (ED) to support the timely review, management and communication of post-discharge diagnostic results for the ED. .

Working collaboratively with the Emergency physician and the interdisciplinary team, the RN Results Expediter will coordinate follow-up related to laboratory, microbiology, pathology, and diagnostic imaging results identified after patient discharge. This role is integral to improving patient safety, reducing delays in care, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and enhancing physician availability for direct patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and monitor outstanding diagnostic results for discharged ED patients including laboratory, microbiology, pathology, and diagnostic imaging findings.
  • Identify abnormal or critical results requiring further assessment or intervention
  • Escalate significant findings to the Most Responsible Physician or designated ED physicians to determine appropriate follow-up care plans
  • Collaborate with Emergency Physicians to determine appropriate follow-up plans and patient disposition.
  • Conduct telephone callbacks with patients regarding diagnostic results, recommended treatment plans and follow-up requirements.
  • Provide patient education and reinforce discharge instructions, return precautions, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Assume responsibilities traditionally managed during physician callback shifts during the Monday -Friday Days.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on diagnostic excellence, patient safety, result management, and reduction of preventable return visits.
  • Documents relevant information in the EMR as per HRH and CNO standards

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent healthcare-related degree.
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Minimum five years recent Emergency Department nursing experience
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Demonstrated expertise in emergency nursing assessment, clinical decision-making, and patient education.
  • Experience interpreting and responding to diagnostic information in collaboration with physicians.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and patient engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records, Microsoft Office applications, and Meditech.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record a requirement.

Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Coronary Care 1 (CC1) certification required
  • Membership with Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) preferred
  • Experience in quality improvement, patient safety, clinical informatics, or care coordination initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Lean, process improvement, or healthcare quality methodologies.
