GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITYAs a member of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) Senior Leadership team, the Director of Epidemiology, Analytics and Surveillance is accountable for providing collaborative leadership and expertise in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, programs and initiatives that support and advance the Agency's mission, values, policies and strategic direction.
The Director, Epidemiology, Analytics and Surveillance leads the department with deep subject-matter expertise and a strong foundational mandate. The Director is responsible for ensuring the department operations use modern, innovative practices, which focus on stakeholder confidence, and positioning EAS as a strategic partner with and within the broader organization.
The Director, Epidemiology, Analytics and Surveillance partners and collaborates with Executive Leadership, Directors, Managers and external partners and is accountable to lead the surveillance, epidemiology and analytics activities for the SCA. The Epidemiology, Analytics and Surveillance Department provide the organization and the province with quantitative and qualitative information across the cancer control continuum used to monitor cancer and the cancer system in Saskatchewan. This includes cancer surveillance and projections, advanced analytics and models to analyze and improve cancer services and client experience. In addition, the Department produces business analytics for various organizational stakeholders to support clinical operations and planning and supports cancer-related data requests for the purposes of quality improvement, evaluation and research. The Director collaborates with the cancer registry team, providing their expertise on epidemiological impacts of changes to data collection as well as oversight on accuracy and quality of registry data, regarding publications and submissions.
QUALIFICATIONSGraduate degree in a relevant field such as Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Informatics, Health Administration, or a related discipline required.
Combined graduate training in both a health science discipline and management/administration (e.g., MPH + MBA, or MSc + MHA) preferred.
Doctoral-level training is an asset, provided it is complemented by demonstrated operational and leadership experience.
Minimum seven to ten years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior management or director-level role.
Demonstrated experience leading organizational or cultural change in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
Proven ability to build and foster stakeholder relationships, including at the executive level.
Experience designing and implementing service delivery processes for data, analytics, or research functions.
Working knowledge of epidemiology, health analytics, and/or surveillance - sufficient to provide credible oversight and engage meaningfully with technical staff.
Experience in a health system, cancer agency, or similar complex health organization is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with cancer registry operations, provincial surveillance systems, or national reporting frameworks (e.g. NAACCR, CPAC) preferred.
Experience with modern analytics platforms and data warehousing concepts preferred.
Experience working with unionized staff in a public sector or health authority setting preferred.
