PAY SCALE: $47,500 - $66,500/Year, Based on Education and Experience
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Teach high school public education that is exercise industry aligned i.e. personal/athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, diet/nutrition, sports medicine, or recreation management. This course is designed to prepare students for transition to skilled employment and/or continued education in their chosen field and meet NYS Standards.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
  1. Develop, plan and implement curriculum and assessments aligned to Industry and NYS Learning Standards.
  2. Teach high school students the fundamentals of fitness and health science content such as food and nutrition, human anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology and applications such as wellness intervention and treatment through engaging activities and assignments.
  3. Assess and monitor student progress to guide instruction (daily, weekly, and quarterly assessment of student grades).
  4. Collaborate with academic teachers to integrate related literacy, math and science instruction.
  5. Create and implement an effective classroom management plan that supports the code of conduct.
  6. Establish a safe learning environment with active supervision and proper use of all tools and equipment.
  7. Communicate with students, CTE colleagues, parents, component districts and when necessary, Special Education colleagues.
  8. Collaborate with work based learning coordinators, as well as industry and community partners, to create work based learning opportunities for students.
  9. Complete all record keeping functions related to the classroom. Including but not limited to grades, attendance, work-based learning hours, etc.
  10. Attend professional development, faculty meetings and establish and facilitate advisory committee meetings. Attend and assist with events such as open house and information night.
  11. Perform additional professionally related duties at the request of CTE administration

QUALIFICATIONS:
NYS CTE Personal Trainer Assisting certification OR
1-4 years of experience as a Personal Trainer, required years of experience dependent on level of education and willingness to pursue NYS CTE Personal Trainer Assisting certification OR
NYS Teacher Certification (Physical Education K-12 and Health 7-12 preferred) and one of the following industry credentials (or willingness to pursue):
  • ACE Certified Personal Trainer - American Council on Exercise
  • AAPTE Certified Personal Trainer, Exercise Fitness Specialist - Academy of Applied Personal Training Education
  • NCSF Certified Personal Trainer - National Council on Strength and Fitness
  • NYS Athletic Trainer license - NYSED Office of the Professions

AND willingness to pursue NYS CTE Personal Trainer Assisting certification.
