What is health economics?

Health economics is a field of study that focuses on how healthcare resources are allocated, including the costs, behaviors, and outcomes associated with healthcare services and products. It examines the efficiency, effectiveness, value, and behavior in the production and consumption of health and healthcare. Health economists analyze data to help inform policy decisions, improve healthcare delivery, and ensure that resources are used in a way that maximizes public health benefits. Their work can influence everything from insurance policy to pharmaceutical pricing and public health interventions.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in health economics when working with healthcare data?

Professionals in Health Economics often encounter challenges such as inconsistent data quality, limited access to comprehensive datasets, and variations in coding and reporting standards across healthcare providers. Interpreting real-world evidence and ensuring data privacy compliance can also be complex. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—including clinicians, data scientists, and policy makers—helps address these challenges and ensures robust, actionable economic analyses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in health economics?

To thrive in Health Economics, you need a strong background in economics, statistics, and public health, often supported by a relevant degree such as a master's or PhD. Proficiency with statistical analysis software (like Stata, R, or SAS), health economic modeling tools, and familiarity with health care databases is essential. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights set outstanding professionals apart. These skills are crucial for informing policy, guiding healthcare decisions, and demonstrating the value of health interventions in a data-driven environment.

Job description

Lumen is the trusted network for the AIpowered world, connecting people, data, and applications through our expansive fiber network and connected ecosystem. We enable secure, highperformance connectivity across cloud, edge, and AI workloads for enterprises, governments, and communities.

At Lumen, you'll work on infrastructure customers rely on today and build for what's next, where performance, security, and resilience matter.

This is a high accountability environment where bold ideas drive real innovation for our customers, partners, and industry. The Role

Own the numbers behind Lumen's next chapter of growth.

Lumen Digital is where our future is being built - a fast-moving, consumption-based business reshaping how the world connects. We're looking for a Senior Manager of Finance to be the analytical engine behind that growth. This is not a back-office reporting job. You'll sit at the center of the action, turning strategy, pricing, and customer usage into the financial story that guides executive decisions and shapes where we invest next.

You'll build the models, call the plays, and connect every dollar to momentum. If you thrive on pace, love turning ambiguity into clarity, and want your work to visibly move the business - this is your seat.

Work Location

Fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT & VARIANCE ANALYSIS

Define What Winning Looks Like
KPIS & REPORTING
  • Define KPIs that show leadership whether the business is winning.
  • Build dashboards that turn data into decisions and highlight leading indicators.
  • Ensure trusted definitions, sources, and reporting integrity.

What We Look For in a Candidate
Who You Are

  • 7+ years turning financial analysis into real business impact.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA a plus).
  • Experience in digital, SaaS, or consumption-based businesses - you get how modern, usage-based growth works.
  • A modeling powerhouse: advanced Excel, with bonus points for Python, R, or other analytics tools.
  • Sharp, curious, and detail-obsessed - you find the signal in the noise.
  • A natural communicator who can hold the room with senior leaders.
  • Built for pace: you juggle competing priorities, thrive in ambiguity, and keep moving.

How You Work

  • You take ownership like an owner - accountable end to end.
  • You're proactive and results-driven; you don't wait to be told.
