What does a health care project manager do?

A Health Care Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects within healthcare organizations, such as hospitals, clinics, or health systems. They coordinate teams, manage budgets and timelines, and ensure that projects align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. Typical projects might include implementing new healthcare technologies, improving patient care processes, or managing construction of new facilities. Their work helps healthcare organizations operate more efficiently and deliver better patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a health care project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Health Care Project Manager, you need a solid background in healthcare operations, project management principles, and typically a relevant degree (such as in healthcare administration or project management). Familiarity with project management software (like MS Project or Asana), electronic health records (EHR) systems, and certifications such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma are highly beneficial. Outstanding organizational, leadership, and communication skills help foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders and manage complex projects. These skills are vital to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and deliver measurable improvements in healthcare delivery.

What are some common challenges health care project managers face when coordinating multidisciplinary teams?

Health Care Project Managers often work with diverse teams including clinicians, administrators, IT professionals, and external vendors. One common challenge is aligning different stakeholders' priorities and communication styles to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget. Navigating regulatory requirements and balancing resource constraints also requires strong organizational and negotiation skills. Successful project managers foster collaboration, clarify roles, and facilitate regular check-ins to keep everyone aligned.

We have an exciting opportunity for a HVAC/ Plumbing Sales Project Manager located in Rochester, MN.

How you will contribute:

Leverage your networking and relationship management skills through developing and growing a customer base focused on commercial and industrial plumbing and HVAC construction projects. You will spend your time meeting with customers, establishing/maintaining relationships and generating sales; estimating projects; as well as setting up and closing out projects. Ahern offers the support of subject matter experts in the area of design and estimating for more challenging projects. You will project manage the work you sell and coordinate the installation with the field, suppliers, and other subcontractors. You will have the ability to influence the financial performance of regional work while assuming an active role in managing projects in conjunction with an engineer and Ahern’s field talent. Estimated Compensation:

$97,800- $122,000 plus bonus/commission. This position is also eligible for a vehicle allowance and gas card. Final offers based on education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
