Job description

Job Summary The City of Rockville, Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking qualified candidates for the part-time / temporary position(s) of Swim Coach and/or Senior Swim Coach to work with youth athletes of a variety of ages and skill levels within the Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC) at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. The RMSC program is a competitive, year-round United States Swimming club team, with 8 practice groups and 400+ swimmers. Learn more about the program at www.rockvillemd.gov/rmsc

Current coaching opportunities exist in working with our 12 and under and high school aged athlete groups. Successful candidates will be available for flexible assignments in early morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours and have experience as a coach or participant with a United States Swimming affiliated Team. Essential Job Functions Swim Coach Responsible for conducting practices and workouts for swim team members; responsible for maintaining a safe environment for practices; responsible for all paperwork and administrative processes which is related to swim team and meets; responsible for supervising swimmers at meets, professionally communicates with swimmers and parents to provide information pertaining to the swim team and general customer service. Complete routine facility maintenance to include set-up and clean-up of practice area. Respond to any emergency situation which may arise.

Usually works under the supervision of a Senior Coach or Head Coach, however is expected lead practice sessions independently, as directed. Work schedule may include early morning, evening and weekend hours. Other duties as assigned.

Senior Swim Coach Responsibility includes planning and implementation of seasonal and weekly plans for a swim team practice group, supervises other coaches in practice and at competitions. Also responsible for leading practices and workouts for swim team members; responsible for maintaining a safe environment for practices; responsible for all paperwork and administrative processes which is related to swim team and meets; responsible for supervising swimmers at meets. Serves as the point of contact for communication with swimmers and parents within the practice group to provide information pertaining to the swim team and meets, provides general customer service.

Complete routine facility maintenance to include set-up and clean-up of practice area. Respond to any emergency situation which may arise. Usually works under the general supervision of the full time Head Swim Coach, and is expected coordinate the operations of their assigned practice group to include planning and leading practice sessions independently.

Work schedule may include early morning, evening and weekend hours. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Swim Coach Must possess or be able to obtain Coach's Certification from USA Swimming.

Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR/AED and First Aid required. Ability to communicate effectively in a pool environment is required. Lifeguard Training Certification preferred.

Must have or attain American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level II certification or equivalent. Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR/AED and First Aid required.

Ability to communicate effectively in a pool environment is required. Lifeguard Training Certification and Montgomery County Pool Operator's License Preferred. Experience: Must have at least 3 years of coaching experience and demonstrate a commitment to Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club program.

Education: High school diploma and/or above. Some college preferred.
