About the role
Hotel Bardo Savannah is seeking a Director of Engineering to serve as the property's chief engineer and onsite department head. Reporting to the Area Director of Engineering, this leader oversees the daily engineering, maintenance, facilities, and life-safety operations for Hotel Bardo Savannah.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge, administrative discipline, and the ability to keep a complex luxury hotel operating safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is an experienced Chief Engineer, Assistant Director of Engineering, or property engineering leader who is equally comfortable managing systems, leading a team, and stepping in to troubleshoot when needed.
This is an onsite position located at Hotel Bardo Savannah. Candidates without full service hotel engineering leadership experience will not be considered for this role.
What you'll do
  • Lead daily engineering, maintenance, facilities, and life-safety operations.
  • Direct, schedule, train, and develop the engineering team.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance for guest rooms, public spaces, kitchens, laundry, pools, equipment, and back-of-house areas.
  • Maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, building automation, fire and life-safety, and other critical hotel systems.
  • Manage work orders, inspections, permits, maintenance logs, compliance documentation, and reporting.
  • Respond quickly to guest-impacting issues, emergencies, safety concerns, and operational disruptions.
  • Partner with Rooms, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Security, and hotel leadership to support daily operations.
  • Manage vendors, contractors, departmental expenses, purchasing, inventory, and labor resources.
  • Support capital projects, renovations, equipment replacements, and property improvements.
  • Monitor utilities and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety requirements, brand standards, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications
  • Five or more years of progressive hotel, resort, facilities, or complex building engineering experience.
  • At least three years of engineering or maintenance leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, building automation, life-safety, and preventive maintenance systems.
  • Experience leading hourly teams, managing vendors, prioritizing work orders, and responding to emergencies.
  • Strong administrative skills, including budgeting, purchasing, reporting, compliance tracking, and project coordination.
  • Experience with a CMMS or work-order system.
  • Strong judgment, organization, communication, urgency, and follow-through.
  • Relevant technical certifications or trade licenses preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
