Job description


This is an on-site position located in Rochester, MN.
The Senior Media Systems Engineer is accountable for project results and goals set by Unit Head and division level leadership. May be asked to directly oversee the activities of other engineers assigned to the development and maintenance of hardware and software-based media systems and projects in the supported areas. Is directly responsible for the design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, documentation and repair of complex media communication and media information management servers, workstations and systems. Develops proposals and works with leadership to gain the needed approvals. Works effectively across departmental organizations. Within the Technical Services Unit, the senior media systems engineer will have the primary responsibility in one of the following areas: creation and support of high-end workstation and associated systems used by the division in the creation of its products and services. In absence of a Lead Media Systems Engineer, will be responsible for supervising daily operations support relative to the maintenance and enhancement of Technical Services Unit support core services in direct cooperation with the Mayo help desk. Within the Video Engineering Unit, the senior media systems engineer will have the primary responsibility in one of the following areas: design and supervision of audiovisual and videoconference equipment; or supervision of the Mayo Clinic Video Network and the Video Master Control Center; or supervision of the Mayo Clinic Television Network and Video on Demand systems.
As a senior member of the Enterprise Event Production team, this position will serve as a strategic technical leader responsible for shaping and advancing Mayo Clinic's enterprise event technology ecosystem. Working closely with executive stakeholders, production teams, and technology partners, this position will lead the design and build strategy for premier enterprise and C-suite meeting spaces, provide technical leadership for select high-profile events, and drive long-term technology strategy and innovation initiatives. Additionally, this position will also provide guidance, mentorship, and technical direction to Senior Technical Directors and production staff, ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable, and cutting-edge event technology solutions that support Mayo Clinic's most critical meetings and events.

Qualifications
Master's degree in advanced media engineering or IT-related program(s) and a minimum of three (3) years' professional experience in management information systems, broadcast, post-production or audiovisual facilities engineering design and technical operations; OR, a Bachelor's degree in information systems or media communications engineering, and a minimum of five (5) years' professional experience in management information systems, broadcast, post-production, or audiovisual facilities engineering design and technical operations required; or nine years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated communication, organizational, problem-solving and facilitation skills. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office, and Adobe products used in the Creative Suite. Demonstrated knowledge and experience level working with AutoCAD or equivalent. Demonstrated understanding and experience with how websites are designed, and coded. Must have a proven track record with streaming video/web-based video concepts and supporting non-linear editing systems in a video production environment. Must be experienced with portable storage editing solutions. Must have proven experience with various professional/broadcast video formats. Must be familiar with the overall maintenance, repair, additions, alterations and general upkeep of servers, workstations, and all other required infrastructure. Incumbent must have demonstrated project management skills; able to coordinate inventory and maintenance records on equipment and parts, able to restore and maintain and back-up needed servers or systems. Must be able to install, maintain and test various types of network and video interconnections. Required to assist in the implementation and activation of electronics and hardware to support advanced services. Must be able to diagnose and correct problems with electronic or mechanical equipment. Must be able to create and interpret electrical schematics. Incumbent is required to work alternative hours and on call as needed. Must possess exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, as incumbent will be working with all levels of staff. Incumbent must have an established aptitude for developing and nurturing interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships at all levels of the organization. Must be self-motivated, able to work independently.
Prior experience working in healthcare technology. Exposure to managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications. The incumbent must be able to handle numerous projects directly at any given time, and to have simultaneous working knowledge of many more. Must be flexible in a continuously changing environment. A positive, enthusiastic customer service attitude is critical to success.
Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified System Engineer, and/ or Certified Network Engineer preferred. Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), NCTI / SCTE Broadband Distribution Specialist (BDS) or CCNA preferred. Certification from Project Management Institute is preferred if functioning in a project management role.
