Job description

Spot is seeking a dedicated and innovative Manager of Engineering to oversee our core platform systems, engineering health metrics, and the coaching of engineering leads and individual contributors (ICs), while introducing frameworks and technologies that enhance our overall engineering capabilities. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead engineers on the Platform team, ensuring the reliability and enterprise-grade quality of our insurance and wellness systems while championing data-driven engineering health, modern developer tooling, and continuous process improvements.


Location: Hybrid, Miami, FL


Responsibilities:


Developer Productivity

  • Implement and monitor developer productivity frameworks such as SPACE, DORA (preferred), and DevEx to drive continuous improvement.
  • Introduce and integrate productivity-enhancing and risk-mitigation technologies, including AI copilots.
  • Track and analyze productivity metrics, providing actionable insights to optimize performance and efficiency.

Team Management and Coaching

  • Manage and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to engineering leads and ICs, helping them develop their skills and advance their careers.
  • Facilitate regular performance reviews, feedback sessions, and career development planning.

Platform Oversight

  • Ensure the reliability and enterprise-grade quality of core insurance and wellness systems, addressing performance, scalability, and operational issues.
  • Drive alignment with and adoption of modern engineering standards, ensuring systems evolve alongside business needs.

Strategic Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner closely with the Head of Engineering and other stakeholders to align engineering initiatives with broader business objectives.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies in development processes, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a management or technical leadership role.
  • Proven track record of improving developer productivity and implementing frameworks such as SPACE, DORA, and DevEx.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in enterprise systems, distributed systems, and core platform architecture.
  • Experience working with compliance standards such as PCI, DFS, and NIST CSF.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners and stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven development tools and code-quality platforms.
  • Knowledge of cloud services and infrastructure management, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments, particularly scaling engineering teams and implementing new technologies.
