Procurement Strategy and Governance Consultant – Procurement Center of Excellence

Procurement Operational Excellence and Design

Full-Time (Hybrid - Boston, MA or Springfield, MA)

The Opportunity

The Procurement Strategy and Governance Consultant plays a key role in shaping how Procurement operates across MassMutual. This is not a traditional sourcing or contracting role—this role focuses on designing, governing, and continuously improving the end-to-end procurement operating model.

In this role, you will translate strategy into execution by establishing clear processes, standards, and frameworks that enable Procurement to operate as a unified, high-performing function. You will partner across Procurement, Technology, and the broader business to simplify how work gets done, improve adoption of new capabilities, and ensure our processes deliver measurable value.

This is a highly collaborative and visible role where you will bring structure, clarity, and innovation to how Procurement operates—ensuring strong governance, embedded controls, and audit readiness while driving continuous improvement across the organization.

The Team

The Procurement Strategy and Governance Consultant sits within the Procurement Excellence and Design team and partners closely across all areas of Procurement to define and continuously improve how we work.

  • Defining and maintaining procurement policy and standards

  • Connecting and streamlining end-to-end source-to-pay processes

  • Partnering with Innovation and Data teams to enable technology capabilities

  • Driving continuous improvement to reduce cost, increase efficiency, and enhance the procurement experience

The Impact

Reporting to the Head of Procurement Excellence and Design, this role is a key contributor in shaping how Procurement operates today and in the future.

As a Procurement Strategy and Governance Consultant, you will:

  • Build and maintain standardized processes that improve efficiency and ensure compliance

  • Define and govern core processes, ensuring controls are embedded and consistently executed

  • Establish frameworks to measure performance and ensure progress is visible

  • Drive continuous improvement across the procurement organization

  • Support audit readiness and strengthen the overall control environment

This is a highly collaborative role where your ideas, expertise, and initiative will directly influence how Procurement evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the procurement control framework, including monitoring effectiveness, addressing gaps, and supporting audit readiness

  • Own and maintain procurement policies, standards, procedures, and controls, ensuring alignment with business processes

  • Design and implement tools and frameworks that make processes easy to access, understand, and consistently follow

  • Partner across teams (e.g., CFPMO, Readiness, Innovation & Data, Contracts, P2P) to drive initiatives and continuous improvement

  • Provide clear guidance on project execution and ensure alignment to expectations, standards, and changes

  • Lead or support initiatives that enhance procurement efficiency, effectiveness, and overall outcomes

  • Develop and track key metrics to provide visibility into performance across sourcing, contracting, and supplier management

The Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5+ years of experience in Procurement, Continuous Improvement, Vendor Management, Risk Management, or equivalent consulting experience

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience working in a procurement center of excellence, shared services, or matrixed environment

  • Experience partnering with Audit, Compliance, or Risk teams in a regulated environment

  • Familiarity with control frameworks, governance, and audit processes

  • Experience leading or supporting process design, governance, or continuous improvement initiatives

  • Strong background in procurement technologies (e.g., Source-to-Pay platforms such as Ariba, workflow tools such as Levelpath)

  • Knowledge of third-party risk and/or supplier performance management

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills

  • Bachelor’s degree

What You Can Expect at MassMutual
