a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in leading the daily operation and future direction of the Engineering Department for a 1,196-room, full-service convention hotel with approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. This position is responsible for helping maintain safe, reliable, efficient, and guest-ready guestrooms, public areas, meeting and event spaces, kitchens, exterior areas, central plant equipment, and life-safety systems. The Assistant Director translates departmental strategy into daily execution by setting priorities based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, events, work orders, and asset risk; providing visible leadership; ensuring appropriate shift coverage and skill mix; developing colleagues; and improving Working Order and guest satisfaction. The position requires broad technical knowledge, strong leadership and troubleshooting ability, financial awareness, effective communication, and the flexibility to respond to emergencies and special projects.
Duties include:
- Direct daily Engineering operations, assign priorities, and ensure critical and guest-impacting work orders are followed through to completion.
- Maintain building and equipment reliability through preventive maintenance, inspections, root-cause analysis, and timely permanent repairs.
- Coordinate Engineering readiness for high occupancy, conventions, major events, severe weather, utility interruptions, and other emergencies.
- Support demand-based scheduling that provides qualified coverage, appropriate skill mix, and compliance with departmental labor standards.
- Coach, train, counsel, and hold colleagues accountable to Hyatt service standards, safety procedures, documentation requirements, and quality workmanship.
- Manage vendors and contractors, including work scopes, permits, code compliance, safety, quality, schedules, and cost control.
- Assist with operating budgets, capital planning, purchasing, inventory, project tracking, and repair-versus-replacement recommendations.
- Monitor Working Order, preventive-maintenance completion, backlog, room downtime, repeat calls, utility performance, and other departmental KPIs.
- Support energy, water, leak-detection, building-automation, Green Team, and Green Key Global sustainability initiatives.
- Partner with hotel departments and serve as acting department head when assigned or when the Director of Engineering is unavailable.
