What are some common challenges faced by a Head of Animation when managing a large creative team?

As a Head of Animation, one common challenge is balancing creative vision with project deadlines and budget constraints while ensuring each team member’s strengths are utilized effectively. Coordinating between animators, directors, and other departments often requires strong communication and conflict-resolution skills to keep the animation pipeline running smoothly. Additionally, fostering a collaborative and inspiring environment is key to maintaining high morale and encouraging innovation, especially during high-pressure periods of production.

What does a Head of Animation do?

A Head of Animation oversees the entire animation department in a studio or production company. Their responsibilities include managing teams of animators, ensuring the artistic vision aligns with the project's goals, and coordinating with directors and producers. They also establish workflows, set quality standards, and help solve creative or technical challenges that arise during production. In addition to leadership, the Head of Animation often mentors team members and helps with recruiting new talent.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Head of Animation, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Head of Animation, you need expertise in animation principles, art direction, team leadership, and a solid portfolio demonstrating creative vision and project management, often supported by a degree in animation or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, and production tracking systems is essential, along with knowledge of current animation pipelines. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to inspire and mentor creative teams are crucial soft skills. These qualifications enable the Head of Animation to deliver high-quality content, drive innovation, and ensure efficient, collaborative workflows across complex projects.

Job description

We are in relentless pursuit of an equitable and inspiring workplace that is respectful of all, reflects and represents the world in which we live, and fosters trust, collaboration and belonging. Consistent with this approach, we hire the best qualified candidates for all positions.
Edelman is seeking an experienced and highly organized Post Producer to join DJE Studios, our in-house creative production team. This full-time role is ideal for a collaborative and detail-oriented professional with 3-5 years of post-production experience managing editorial workflows for social, digital, and branded content.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of post-production pipelines, delivery standards, and platform-specific storytelling across today's evolving media landscape. They thrive in fast-paced environments, communicate effectively with both creative and client teams, and are passionate about organization, problem-solving, and delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and post-production workflows is strongly preferred.
What You'll Do
  • Help lead post-production projects from kickoff through final delivery
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining clear communication and organization
  • Collaborate closely with editors, designers, animators, producers, and creative teams
  • Support creative problem-solving and ensure projects stay on schedule and within scope
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail across all phases of post-production

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Post Producer for DJE Studios in the Los Angeles office, reporting to the Head of Post Production
  • Act as the primary client contact across 5-10 concurrent projects, depending on scope and complexity
  • Build and manage post-production schedules and editorial timelines
  • Recommend editor and graphics staffing based on creative needs and team strengths
  • Help manage budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities in collaboration with the Head of Post Production
  • Oversee all aspects of post-production, including editorial, graphics, music, voiceover, color, and audio mix
  • Manage client reviews, feedback, revisions, and final asset delivery
  • Create graphics and VFX briefs for in-house and freelance designers and animators
  • Partner with editors and designers to ensure creative objectives are achieved
  • Support Senior Post Producers on large-scale campaigns, including note management, review scheduling, and asset organization
  • Coordinate color, mix, and finishing workflows while maintaining ongoing communication with all stakeholders
  • Ensure all contracts, deliverables, and project documentation are completed accurately
  • Initiate music and stock licensing workflows in partnership with production coordinators upon project wrap

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of professional post-production experience in an agency, studio, production company, or related environment
  • Strong understanding of post-production workflows and delivery specifications for digital and social content
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to remain calm, collaborative, and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and self-motivated work style
  • Experience with Adobe Suite is a plus

The responsibilities listed above are not exhaustive and may evolve based on team and project needs. We're looking for someone adaptable, collaborative, and excited to contribute to a fast-moving creative environment.
