Job description

The USF Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is seeking a collaborative, motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) to join our growing
academic team in a hybrid inpatient/transition-of-care role. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a dynamic, subspecialty-trained faculty and our Otolaryngology residents within one of Florida's leading academic ENT programs-a department recognized among U.S. News & World Report's top 50 ENT service lines for five consecutive years and ranked among the top 20 nationally for research funding by the Blue Ridge Institute.
The successful candidate will divide their time between inpatient consultative care at Tampa General Hospital and outpatient care at the USF South Tampa Center and/or Morsani Center, with a particular focus on bridging the inpatient-to-outpatient transition for our most complex patients. We are building this role for a clinician who values teamwork, thrives in a teaching environment, and is eager to develop into a true subspecialty expert in Otolaryngology. New graduates and experienced APPs are both encouraged to apply; structured onboarding, faculty mentorship, and graduated clinical autonomy are central to how we develop our team.
Responsibilities
Clinical -
• Clinical Management: Perform daily rounds, physical exams, and assessments for a designated caseload of inpatients. Will also maintain an outpatient clinic to see appropriate new patients and focus on follow up care for patients after hospital discharge.
• Diagnostic & Treatment Planning: Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory tests, EKGs, and imaging results.
• Prescriptive Authority: Prescribe medications, therapies, and non-pharmacological interventions within the scope of practice.
• Procedures: Perform and become proficient in bedside/ENT procedures, such as wound management, tracheostomy care, suture removal, nasal endoscopy, otomicroscopy, and laryngoscopy depending on specialty, credentialing and clinical education from our department.
• Discharge Planning: Coordinate the care plan to facilitate timely discharge and reduce length of stay.
• Collaboration & Communication: Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, consult with specialists, and communicate changes in patient condition to the attending physician.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely electronic medical records (EMR) for all patient encounters.
• Mentorship: Act as a clinical resource for bedside nursing staff
Teaching -
Engage actively with the Otolaryngology residency program, supporting teaching at the bedside and contributing to a culture of shared learning between APPs, residents, and faculty.
• Participate in departmental educational conferences, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and case
discussions.
• Serve as a clinical resource for medical and APP students rotating through the department, modeling team-based care.
• Pursue ongoing professional development through CME, specialty society engagement (e.g., SPAOHNS, SOHNS), and structured departmental learning opportunities.
Research -
Opportunity to participate in departmental clinical research initiatives, including ongoing trials in head and neck oncology, voice and hearing innovation, and airway pathology.
• Opportunity to contribute to scholarly projects led by faculty and residents, with potential for coauthorship and presentation at regional and national meetings.
• Ability to engage with the broader USF/TGH research enterprise as opportunities and interests align.
Administrative -
Complete clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including consult notes, discharge summaries, and outpatient encounters.
• Manage patient-specific paperwork on rotation with the broader APP and faculty team, including FMLA, disability, and procedural authorization documentation.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives focused on metrics such as readmission rates, length of stay, transitions of care, and patient experience.
• Contribute to operational workflow improvements and EPIC optimization in collaboration with the clinical leadership team.
Other -
Performs other duties as assigned by Chair.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department.
Qualifications
Minimum: Master's or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank
of Instructor.
Additional Minimum:
This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.
