Academies of Math and Science - Power

Day Porter / Custodian

Location: 7301 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85209
Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00/hour (DOE)
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to providing a safe, clean, and supportive learning environment for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Day Porter / Custodian to support the daily operations of the AMS Power Campus in Mesa. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and families throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, demonstrates professionalism, and is responsive to the evolving needs of a busy school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness across all areas of the campus throughout the day.

  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas.

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors; clean walls, windows, fixtures, and surfaces.

  • Collect and dispose of trash across campus, including outdoor areas.

  • Launder cleaning materials such as towels and mop heads.

Daily Operations Support

  • Prepare and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment for daily use.

  • Support cafeteria setup, events, and daily campus operations as needed.

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as light bulb replacement and filter changes.

  • Maintain and service custodial equipment, including vacuums, floor buffers, and other tools.

  • Apply wax or sealers to floors as directed by campus leadership.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all chemical handling guidelines, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and HAZMAT regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.

  • Assist with campus security procedures, including locking and unlocking doors and gates.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate supply needs to the Office Manager and facility repair needs to the Head of Operations/Facilities Manager.

  • Interact professionally with students, staff, and school leadership.

  • Respond promptly to facility needs and support urgent requests as they arise.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support campus operations.

Qualifications & Competencies

Required

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum of 2 years of custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience (school environment preferred)

  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safe chemical handling practices

  • Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, carpet extractors, and related tools

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to respond promptly to campus needs and emergencies

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting

  • Experience supporting large facilities or high-traffic environments
