Job description


Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the selection of quality gilts to tag and enter into breeding herd
  • Check and detect heat on a daily basis to ensure gilts get plenty of exposure to boars
  • Identify and remove gilts in heat, to heat no service row or breed barn
  • Keep detailed records for use in breeding process for improved quantity and quality of production
  • Comply with the practices and principles of biosecurity to safeguard the life and health of the swine herd
  • Comply with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) to complete all daily tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Care for the welfare of the animals on a daily basis, including feeding, watering, providing health and vaccination treatment, detecting heat, conducting artificial insemination procedures, moving pigs, and power washing following company SOPs
  • Ensure and follow the highest level of a safe work environment and work practices
  • Work with team members to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in the work area
  • Perform routine tasks assigned by the Breeding Head of Department
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Farm Manager
