Position Summary:

The Senior Data Analyst will support the design, development, assessment, and monitoring of process designs that foster agility, resilience, efficiency, and patient safety in and around the Expanse electronic health record (EHR). In this role, the Senior Data Analyst will employ Lean, Six Sigma, and Toyota Production System methodologies to define and describe opportunities for improvement in clinical workflows in and involving Expanse through all things data. This role will lead, develop and consult with teams to generate recommendations to gain efficiencies for clinical workflows in Expanse, including but not limited to physician / APP, nursing, lab, and pharmacy. The Senior Data Analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to the Expanse product team, Clinical Informatics, enterprise clinical teams such as Nursing and Pharmacy, division, and facility teams to help implement improvements, and sustain results, using a methodical process. This team applies data-driven business principles to the selection and development of advanced technologies that enable breakthroughs in care and efficiency in our business operations. This role will work closely with cross-functional team members (as well as external stakeholders), including multiple constituents across the enterprise, to execute project requirements that will establish solutions directionality and support leadership to effectively and efficiently assess, develop and integrated new workflows, derived from the translation of workflow observations, quantitative inputs from various clinical systems and qualitative inputs. The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for developing and curating Key Performance Indicators by developing analytical models and measurement tools to track performance and outcomes. They collaborate with a wide range of colleagues including business analysts, data analysts, product managers, clinical SMEs, hospital leaders, operation directors, and engineers to achieve team goals. They have the opportunity to contribute to clinical design, process engineering, and product development across CT&I’s portfolio depending on interest and expertise. They are expected to learn and leverage the enterprise reporting solutions used to run HCA’s operations to collect information for analysis and assist other CT&I members with data collection. They are expected and positioned to advance their knowledge the business of healthcare at HCA in areas such as clinical operations, technology development, supply chain, and beyond. 


Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of new processes in and around the Expanse EHR that support agility, resilience, efficiency, and patient safety. 
  • Assess existing processes and workflows at sites using Expanse to identify priorities and opportunities for improvement by making informed deductive decisions from available datasets. 
  • Employ process improvement methodologies as standards for assessing workflow in and around the Expanse EHR 
  • Track initiatives against key measurable success metrics to identify opportunities for improvement 
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to the Expanse organizational strategy, project plans, and key milestones 
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Expanse organization to design and assess processes according to the principles of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process engineering modalities. 
  • Guides cross-functional teams to conduct process improvement and design process studies/audits, as well as studies in business process re-engineering and system redesign. 
  • Collaborates with Clinical Analytics, Business Operations, and cross-functional design partners (as well as external partners) to design, lead, assign and execute quantitative and qualitative data analysis including: Leveraging available and novel data sources in an effective and efficient manner, leveraging database and data analytics tools such as SQL and Power BI to support design and evaluation of business cases, and tracking current and future state metrics and KPI/KpI (key performance indicators/key process indicators) as a means to ascertain solution viability. 
  • Works with a cross-functional team to improve the customer experience and design solutions that systematically reduce errors, reduce cost, and increase revenues that create clinical and business capacity. 
  • Perform detailed analysis and evaluations on current/future state and documents conclusions and recommendations. 
  • Support the design, logistical planning, and execution of Kaizen sessions including senior leader both internal and external to Expanse. 
  • Adhere to the standard operating procedures of the Expanse organization, including all supportive technologies used to organize and progress work efforts 
  • Supports development of pilot and project implementation plans. 
  • Engages with Expanse product team, Division teams, and facility teams to assess, design, and implement improved workflows with the Expanse platform. 
  • Develop and maintain analytics for the areas of clinical outcomes, operations, finance, healthcare coding, people measures, and other healthcare domains. 
  • Leads and executes through others in concurrent enterprise Lean Six Sigma engagements to develop strong working relationships and productive collaboration with project teams and other key stakeholders. 
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates opportunities/barriers to successful completion of assigned work, escalating accordingly to the Director of Process Engineering. 
  • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) the analysis of multiple inputs to produce standard work products and artifacts/outputs that render a concise and synthesized clinically-lead analysis of perceived, current, and ideal state. 
  • This role will frequently engage with executives, including Strategy, Clinical Operations, Clinical Informatics Product Lifecycle Logistics, Business Operations, Data/Technical leaders, and other business partners. 
  • Develop an in-depth familiarity with multiple enterprise datasets used to support customer deliverables such as dashboards 
  • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) process mining projects that support automation efforts based on identified complexity of existing business processes. 
  • Educates, informs and advocates for the capabilities and benefits of process improvement and continuous performance management strategies and tactics as a means to enhance and accelerate CT&I-related work.
  •  Ability to build, develop and present operational update (detailed and high level) reports to leadership on progress.
  • Participates in scoping of projects with key stakeholders. 

Other Qualifications: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PPT, Visio 
  • Proficient in data analytics tools such as SQL or PowerBI – Required 
  • Proficient in Minitab, Tableau or Qlik – Required
  • User Experience (UX) / User Interface (UI) Design Experience – Required 
  • Advanced knowledge in Data Analysis / Development – Required 
  • Experience developing analysis with a general scripting language such as Python or R 
  • Excellent presentation skills sufficient to create and present on strategic and enterprise project and consulting engagements to senior leadership. 
  • Ability to work mostly independently as well as with a team on large projects and operational issues. 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with an ability to interpret and communicate technical information to both individuals and groups in a clear, concise manner. 
  • Experience with coding and SDLC standards – Required 
  • Experience with HCA coding and SDLC standards – Preferred 
  • Operational Efficiencies Expert in understanding basic automation tools & capabilities in order to identify process automation opportunities. 
  • Identifies process mining opportunities, goals, objectives, and benefits oConsults on automation projects regularly 
  • Maps out automation changes to workflow using toolsets such as Visio and collaborates with technology teams and leadership teams on larger scale efforts 
  • Documents complex technical systems, workflows, and application details and requirements to enable support and provide historical record for department technologies
  • Knowledgeable about RPA / AI applications oMaintains current knowledge of healthcare trends and innovation opportunities
