Job description

About the Role:
The Hawthorn Suites located at 1511 Gibson Blvd is looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Person to join our team. We pride ourselves on keeping our property clean, safe, and comfortable for our guests.

This position features a unique onboarding process: we will start with a short-term weekend trial to evaluate your skills, working habits, and efficiency. Upon successful completion of the trial, this will move into a permanent, full-time weekday position.


Schedule & Hours:

  • Permanent Hours: 30 to 35 solid hours per week once you start permanently.
  • Permanent Schedule: Monday through Friday.
  • On-Call Availability: Required during weekends strictly for emergencies (like major leaks or plumbing issues). Standard, non-emergency repairs found over the weekend will wait to be fixed during weekdays.
  • Initial Trial: Starts on a weekend to assess fit before moving permanently to the weekday schedule.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plumbing Focus: Quickly respond to and fix water leakages, overflows, and toilet bowl choke-ups/blockages.
  • General Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair minor issues with furniture, fixtures, TVs, door locks, and light switches.
  • Property Upkeep: Perform basic painting, carpentry, and routine maintenance in guest rooms and public spaces.
  • Exterior Care: Assist in keeping exterior areas clean, including sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Safety & Service: Greet guests courteously when working in guest-facing areas and maintain a clean, organized tool shop.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs/ladders for extended periods.
  • Must have the dexterity to use small repair tools and handle simple objects.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and twist to complete repairs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.


Qualifications:

  • Proven hands-on experience as a handyman or property maintenance worker.
  • Strong, reliable working habits and the ability to work independently.
  • Practical knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and solve problems quickly.


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Starting Pay Range: $16.00 to $19.00 per hour.
  • Skill-Based Salary: Your starting and permanent hourly rate within this range will be determined based on your specific skillset and performance.
  • Pay Review: We will evaluate your working habits after a 2-week trial period to finalize your permanent hourly rate.
  • Holiday Pay: Earn 1.5x your hourly rate if you work on scheduled holidays.
  • Steady, reliable weekly hours.
