Job description

Overview:
A progressive and growing Northern California rice drying and storage facility is seeking an Assistant General Manager (AGM) to join their team. This role supports the General Manager in directing the day-to-day operations of the primary business of rice drying and storage, in alignment with the policies and objectives set by the Board of Directors. The Assistant General Manager plays a key role in operational oversight, financial management, regulatory compliance, and workforce leadership. This position offers a clear leadership development pathway, and qualified candidates will be considered for future succession to the General Manager role based on demonstrated performance, leadership capabilities, and organizational needs. The Assistant General Manager reports directly to the General Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Board and Administrative Support
  • Support the General Manager in preparation of Board of Directors meeting materials and financial reports.
  • Assist with coordination of monthly board meetings and the annual stockholders meeting.
  • Maintain corporate records, stockholder agreements, and related documentation.
  • Support special projects and governance-related administrative functions as directed.
Warehouse Operations
  • Assist in overseeing operations across two facility locations (currently).
  • Provide leadership to nine full time employees, and approximately twenty-fiveย seasonals.
  • Support employee scheduling, wage reviews, and workforce planning.
  • Assist with oversight of capital projects and long-term planning.
  • Monitor quality control on all varieties received from harvest through entire storage season.
  • Support management of pool weighted qualities and shipment settlements.
  • Maintain positive grower relations.
  • Assist in determining varietal mix that best optimizes facility capacity at each facility.
  • Support harvest logistics which may arise as harvest progresses, keeping grower obligations intact.
  • Ensure compliance with all government requirements regarding licenses for permitting, chemical use and applications to rice and properties.
  • Assist in managing Unified Rice Storage Agreements (URSA) contracts, warehouse receipts, weighmaster certifications, inventory, and any other documentation.
Financial Management
  • Assist in overseeing all accounting procedures.
  • Review monthly income statement/balance sheet with the General Manager and Accountant.
  • Support cash flow management, financing, and capital budgeting.
  • Assist in profit and loss analysis.
  • Contribute to preparation of all financial reports for the Board of Directors/Stockholders.
  • Support annual cost per cwt. analysis on drying and storage.
  • Assist with economic projections/special projects.
  • Assist with cost accounting/review of all A/P allocations.
  • Work closely with General Manager and accountant on short- and long-term financial strategy.
  • Help review tariff rate structure on annual basis.
  • Support any other financial functions to facilitate objectives of the company.
Qualifications include:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Ag. Business Management or a related field, preferred.
  • Three to five yearsโ€™ experience in related management, preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to support clear, efficient workflows.
  • Experience supporting financial oversight and an understanding of accounting principles to help inform day-to-day business decisions and long-term strategy.
  • Possession of a Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Certificate (QAC) with a category M (non-soil fumigation) endorsement is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to grow into a General Manager role.
Compensation:
This position offers a competitive starting salary of $80-100k, depending on experience and qualifications, with bonus potential. In addition, this position offers a vehicle, medical and dental insurance, as well as paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and a 401k retirement plan.
