Job Summary

The Quarry Manager will lead operations at Reeves Construction’s granite quarry in Blacksburg, SC. This role oversees all aspects of hard rock quarrying—from drilling and blasting through primary/secondary crushing and loadout—to safely and efficiently produce high-quality granite aggregates that meet customer specifications. The manager will coordinate production, quality, maintenance, and dispatch while ensuring full compliance with MSHA and environmental regulations and supporting strong relationships with internal and external customers.

Main Responsibilities

•    Champion a strong safety culture; actively support all safety initiatives and comply with accountabilities set by Safety and Continuous Improvement teams.
•    Uphold the company’s core values, vision, mission, code of ethics, workplace conduct, and safety policies.
•    Lead, coach, and develop quarry personnel (drill/blast, pit, and plant/crushing crews) to achieve performance, safety, and quality objectives.
•    Plan and manage daily and weekly production to meet demand for granite aggregates; adjust schedules and priorities in response to equipment issues or operational constraints.
•    Ensure full compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and environmental regulations; maintain accurate records and prepare required reports.
•    Oversee drilling, blasting coordination, mucking, hauling, primary/secondary/tertiary crushing, screening, stockpiling, and loadout specific to hard rock (granite) operations.
•    Collaborate with the quality control team to meet gradation and specification requirements; monitor product quality and implement corrective actions.
•    Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance; schedule downtime to optimize throughput and equipment reliability.
•    Maintain strong relationships with internal construction/asphalt teams and external customers; support order fulfillment and responsive customer service.
•    Monitor and improve cost, productivity, and yield (blast fragmentation, crusher throughput, reduction ratios, liner wear, and energy usage).
•    Ensure excellent housekeeping and organization across the quarry, plant, and shop areas.
•    Perform administrative tasks, including email correspondence, timekeeping, inventory entries, inspections, and electronic file management.
•    Support and lead company initiatives related to safety, employee development, and continuous improvement.

Education and Certifications

•    Degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, civil engineering, manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
•    Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR required; commercial driver’s license a plus.
•    MSHA certification (Part 46/48 as applicable) or ability to obtain required.

Skills and Experience

•    3–5 years of progressive experience in aggregate production with a focus on hard rock (granite) quarrying, including drilling/blasting coordination and crushing plant operations.
•    1–2 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
•    Demonstrated success maintaining a zero-injury, high-compliance safety culture.
•    Strong understanding of granite-specific production considerations: blast design and fragmentation, rock mechanics, crusher selection and liner wear, screen media selection, and dust control.
•    Proficient problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for mechanical/process issues.
•    Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations applicable to quarry operations, including MSHA/OSHA, environmental permits (air/water), and DOT as applicable.
•    Basic computer skills (MS Office, email, production and maintenance software).

Physical Requirements

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) per company safety guidelines.
•    Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
•    Frequent use of hands to handle and manipulate objects; regular verbal and written communication.
•    Regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; ability to walk across uneven terrain.
•    Frequent exposure to typical quarry and crushing plant conditions, including dust, loud noise, heavy equipment/machinery, vibration, and all-weather environments.
•    Occasional travel for training or company meetings may be required.
