The OSP Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of outside plant (OSP) infrastructure. By inspecting aerial, underground, and buried plant facilities and validating contractor work against industry and client standards, this role directly supports network reliability, public safety, and regulatory compliance. Accurate documentation, timely issue identification, and clear communication with internal teams and contractors help reduce rework, mitigate risk, and ensure projects are delivered to standard.


Core Responsibilities
  • Perform field inspections, audits, and corrections verification for OSP facilities, including:

    • Aerial plant

    • Underground and buried plant

  • Conduct wooden pole ground-line inspections and assess pole conditions for compliance with standards.

  • Verify contractor work complies with OSP Construction Standards and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements.

  • Document inspections, audits, and pole transfers electronically, including:

    • Inspection findings

    • Required corrections

    • Compliance verification

  • Perform documentation manually using printed spreadsheets when required.

  • Utilize mapping and GPS tools to locate, track, and document facilities

  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and clients via email and mobile phone.

  • Track inspection progress, follow up on corrective actions, and escalate non-compliance issues as needed.

  • Manage time, travel, and inspection schedules efficiently, including short-notice travel.

  • Support construction contractor oversight, ensuring corrective actions are completed accurately and on schedule.


Core RequirementsRequired Qualifications
  • Previous experience performing NESC inspections OR hands-on experience working on an aerial cable line crew.

  • Experience conducting wooden pole ground-line inspections.

  • Strong knowledge of OSP Construction Standards.

  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

  • Proficiency with computers and basic office software, including:

    • Microsoft Windows

    • Microsoft Excel (2003 or newer)

    • Microsoft Outlook

  • Comfortable using the internet and web-based systems.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proven time management and organizational skills.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel on short notice.

  • Experience inspecting underground and buried plant in addition to aerial facilities.

  • Familiarity with mapping and GPS technologies.

  • Experience with mapping tools such as Microsoft MapPoint (2009 or newer) preferred.

  • Demonstrated construction contractor management or oversight experience.

Must be located within 2 hours of Billings or Great Falls, MT.
