What is a hard money loan?

A hard money loan is a type of short-term, asset-based financing typically used by real estate investors. Unlike traditional bank loans, hard money loans are secured by the value of the property itself rather than the borrower's creditworthiness. These loans are often provided by private investors or companies and have faster approval times, but usually come with higher interest rates and shorter repayment periods. Hard money loans are commonly used for fix-and-flip projects or when quick funding is needed.
