Pacific Trailer Repair Services is hiring immediately for a Union Mechanic to Join or team at a Container Storage Facility in Oakland, CA in a recession-proof industry!  Experience is required and the starting rate of pay is commensurate with experience.  You can expect to make $40,000+ in your 1st year.

Job Summary
The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for inspecting and analyzing malfunctions, completing repairs and efficiently rebuilding chassis & trailer and container parts.
We're hiring for the below shift:. 
  • 8 am-5 pm Monday through Friday
  • Overtime is sometimes available.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily inspection of all trailers, containers, and chassis to ensure equipment is meeting safety standards under Federal Highway Administration standards.
  • Able to dismantle, repair and reassemble landing gears, wheel axles, and brakes, this may include welding of broken parts.
  • Ensures the electrical system is running efficiently.
  • Accurately and legibly complete work orders.
  • Completes all work orders in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Technicians are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as hearing protection, safety toe boots, safety glasses, protective hard hat, and welding leathers & goggles, when applicable.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Drivers License, and dependable transportation
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment screening requirements (background and drug test)
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Welding experience is a plus.
  • Must have a Federal Highway inspection Certificate (Preferred)
  • DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes. (Preferred)

Additional Physical Requirements
  • Required job duties are performed in an ambient outdoor environment, which would include varying conditions (rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, cold, etc).
  • The position may also be required to travel throughout the yard and the transfer station either by walking or driving.
  • Physically active.
  • The noise level in the work environment is frequent.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.

This job is suitable for someone that has knowledge of mechanical tools and wants to learn more about truck, trailer, container and chassis maintenance.  Prior experience working on cars, changing tires or welding would be great but is not necessary. 

You will be an employee of Pacific Trailer Repair Services and not an employee of the Railroad.
