Job description
Who are we hiring?
The Senior Manager Security, Sphere - National Harbor will support the security planning, site development, infrastructure readiness, and pre-opening security posture for the Sphere - National Harbor project. This role will focus on construction-site security, physical security design coordination, contractor/vendor access controls, incident reporting, security technology planning, local law enforcement coordination, and transition-to-operations readiness as the site advances through development, construction, commissioning, and opening preparation.
The desired candidate will have experience supporting complex construction, infrastructure, or large-scale venue development environments, with a strong understanding of physical security, security technology, site access control, perimeter protection, contractor coordination, incident response, investigations, scalable security operating models, and public safety coordination. The candidate should also have strong working knowledge of local law enforcement capabilities, jurisdictional expectations, emergency response protocols, and public safety considerations that may impact construction-site security planning, site access, incident escalation, executive site visits, and opening-readiness planning.
This role will partner closely with construction, design, project delivery, facilities, technology, safety, operations, local authorities, public safety agencies, and MSG Threat Management & Security leadership to ensure security requirements are identified early, embedded into project planning, and operationally ready prior to venue opening.
What will you do?
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of construction-site security plans, pre-opening security procedures, crisis response protocols, and security readiness documentation for Sphere - National Harbor.
- Support the security posture of the active development site by coordinating site access controls, construction-phase credentialing, contractor/vendor movement, gate procedures, perimeter controls, delivery routes, laydown areas, and protection of critical assets.
- Partner with construction, project delivery, infrastructure, facilities, technology, and design stakeholders to identify physical security requirements during site development, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, alarms, command center needs, emergency communication, lighting, fencing, barriers, loading/service areas, pedestrian routes, and secure back-of-house circulation.
- Participate in site walks, design reviews, risk assessments, and construction coordination meetings to ensure security considerations are incorporated into the evolving masterplan, infrastructure, parking, roadway, service yard, pedestrian bridge, rideshare, VIP, staff, contractor, and vendor access concepts.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local law enforcement, fire/life safety partners, emergency management agencies, and other public safety stakeholders to support construction-site security planning, incident response, traffic/access considerations, executive site visits, and future venue opening readiness.
- Coordinate reporting and escalation processes for construction-site incidents, theft, trespass, unsafe conditions, access violations, security exceptions, damage to assets, and contractor/vendor compliance concerns.
- Conduct security risk assessments and vulnerability reviews across each phase of site development to identify exposure points and recommend practical mitigation strategies that are scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with project timelines.
- Work with internal and external partners to develop the pre-opening security operating model, including staffing assumptions, post plans, technology requirements, procedures, training needs, emergency response coordination, law enforcement coordination, and transition plans from construction security to venue operations.
- Support coordination with local law enforcement, fire/life safety partners, emergency management agencies, construction safety teams, vendors, contractors, and project leadership to promote a safe and secure development environment.
- Track construction-phase security trends, gaps, and lessons learned to inform future operating procedures, capital planning, technology deployment, public safety coordination, and long-term security posture for Sphere - National Harbor.
- Ensure site security planning remains aligned with MSG Threat Management & Security standards, enterprise risk objectives, construction milestones, commissioning activities, local public safety considerations, and opening-readiness requirements.
- Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.
What do you need to succeed?
- 7-10 plus years of direct experience in corporate security, construction-site security, infrastructure security, security operations, investigations, law enforcement, military, or large-scale venue/project security, preferably supporting complex development, entertainment, sports, public assembly, or critical infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting security planning for construction, renovation, capital projects, site development, or pre-opening environments.
- Strong working knowledge of local law enforcement operations, public safety coordination, emergency response protocols, jurisdictional expectations, and local agency engagement as they relate to site security, construction activity, incident escalation, executive movements, and venue opening readiness.
- Experience coordinating physical security measures, access control processes, CCTV/surveillance planning, incident response, investigations, contractor/vendor controls, and security reporting.
- Must have experience recruiting, developing, and managing security leaders, supervisors, officers, contractors, or third-party security providers.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Knowledge of Software House CCure, Genetec, NEC EVA, SQL Server, Oracle applications, construction access control platforms, CCTV systems, visitor/vendor management tools, and security command or monitoring platforms preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret site plans, construction phasing, access routes, security drawings, physical security layouts, and operating requirements and translate them into practical security procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, summarize, and formulate reports, briefings, risk assessments, incident trends, and readiness updates for project and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure construction and development environment, solving critical issues with business, safety, schedule, budget, and operational impact; able to adjust priorities based on site conditions, project milestones, and direction from leadership.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as externally with contractors, suppliers, consultants, law enforcement, emergency responders, public safety agencies, and project partners.
- Leadership skills to provide direction to construction-phase security personnel, contract security teams, vendors, and future Sphere - National Harbor venue security operations personnel.
- Ability to anticipate, influence, and assist Threat Management & Security and key company stakeholders to assess, address, and rapidly adjust to changing construction conditions, site risks, infrastructure needs, public safety considerations, and project delivery requirements.
SUPERVISION:
- Will oversee construction-phase security supervisors, officers, contract security resources, or third-party security support as assigned; role may be eligible for transition to oversight of Sphere - National Harbor security supervisors and security officers as the project moves from construction and commissioning into opening readiness and venue operations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
- Travel will be required up to 15% of the time in support of Sphere - National Harbor and other MSG business needs.
- Role will require regular physical presence on or around an active construction/development site and may include movement through parking areas, service yards, access roads, temporary work zones, construction trailers, back-of-house areas, and partially completed infrastructure.
- Role may require use of appropriate personal protective equipment when accessing active construction or development areas.
- Role will require active engagement with local law enforcement, fire/life safety, emergency management, and public safety partners to support construction-site security, incident response, executive visits, and opening-readiness planning.
- Role may include Executive Protection planning elements related to VIP, executive, partner, or high-profile stakeholder movements during site visits, construction tours, project briefings, commissioning activities, or opening-readiness events.
- May be required to work evenings/weekends/holidays as appropriate based on project schedule, construction milestones, site activity, commissioning needs, public safety coordination, and operational readiness requirements.
