Job description

Experienced Culinary Cook – Catering Kitchen

Company: Bill Hansen Catering

Reports to: Mary Rohan, Corporate Executive Chef

Compensation: Competitive and based on experience

Schedule: On-call, seasonal position with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on performance and business needs

Bill Hansen Catering is seeking an experienced and dependable Culinary Cook to join our professional kitchen team during our busy catering season, which typically runs from September through May. This is an on-call, seasonal position with hours based on event volume and business needs. Exceptional performance may lead to consideration for a permanent position.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong line-cook experience and a solid culinary background who is ready to take on greater responsibility—without stepping into an executive or corporate chef role.

The right candidate will have a genuine passion for culinary arts, take pride in quality and presentation, and work well in the fast-paced, high-volume environment of a luxury catering operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and properly portion food according to established recipes, specifications, and event requirements
  • Assist with daily kitchen production and off-site event execution
  • Maintain consistent quality, flavor, freshness, and presentation
  • Follow direction from the Corporate Executive Chef and culinary leadership team
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment
  • Assist with plating, station setup, breakdown, and event production
  • Follow all food-safety, sanitation, labeling, storage, and temperature-control procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workstation
  • Work collaboratively with the culinary, warehouse, and operations teams
  • Help guide or support less-experienced kitchen employees when needed
  • Properly handle ingredients and supplies while minimizing waste
  • Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional cooking experience preferred
  • Culinary school education or formal culinary training is a plus but not required
  • Catering, banquet, hotel, or high-volume production experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of culinary techniques, food preparation, and professional kitchen standards
  • Ability to follow recipes and production instructions accurately
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and presentation
  • Dependable, punctual, professional, and able to take direction
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Food-handler certification preferred or willingness to obtain one
  • Employee must have reliable transportation to get to and from work, and events - attendance and timeliness is very important

Seasonal and On-Call Expectations

This position is primarily needed during Bill Hansen Catering’s busy season, generally running from September through May. Work schedules and weekly hours will vary according to scheduled events and production needs. Because this is an on-call position, a specific number of hours is not guaranteed.

Candidates who demonstrate exceptional performance, reliability, flexibility, and alignment with company standards may be considered for a permanent position based on availability and business needs.
