Job description:
This position is based at our Hampton Farms location in Portales, NM.
Purpose:
Working in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, effectively manage all maintenance functions and personnel related to the operation of the Hampton Farms production facility. The Senior Maintenance Technician of Hampton Farms is involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. The Senior Maintenance Technician provides a critical position in Hampton Farms food quality and safety for producing our peanut products. Being a producer of peanuts and peanut products, the Senior Maintenance Technician is aware of risks involved with regards to maintaining Hampton Farms quality standards, proper packaging, proper labeling, all receiving, and shipments are properly inspected and all documentation is correct and accurate. Primary responsibilities include the repair and maintenance of equipment and the facility along with minimizing downtime and preventing down time through Hampton Farm's Preventative Maintenance program. The Senior Maintenance Technician is trained in various areas pertaining to the job required. The Senior Maintenance Technician must maintain a clean and sanitary environment and must be familiar with the activity on the production floor to react if a crisis arises.
Pay: From $26.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Description: include the following though other duties may be assigned:
  • Job functions and job duties will be primarily driven by work order requests. Responsibilities will include communicating problems; providing maintenance and repair services as directed; providing day and night time coverage for emergency duties; and accurately recording and submitting time-keeping and work order related paperwork.
  • Partnering with other Hampton Farms team members in being committed to delivering the best possible experience to our customers and employees in support of our mission, vision, and values.
  • Assist Plant Manager in scheduling work and determining needs for equipment and supplies.
  • Perform various refrigeration, plumbing and heating-related duties; cut, thread, assemble and lay pipe; assist in the purchase, installation, repair and maintenance of various plumbing, heating, and air conditioning fixtures, perform welding and metal fabrication; diagnose and repair electrical systems for roasting, packaging, and all other equipment associated with the process.
  • Assist in the purchase, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring throughout the facility; perform troubleshooting to repair or replace dryer/roaster fans and motors.
  • Estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders; obtain competitive prices for equipment and supplies needed by the facility.
  • Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment safe, clean, and proper working condition per operating manual.
  • Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance including repairs to doors, windows, roofs, and other building parts.
  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment; test and replace circuits; coordinate emergency repairs and large complex projects; troubleshot and correct defective systems; welding; perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Maintain various records related to labor, materials, and work orders.
  • Purchases approved tools, equipment, and materials through Purchase Orders. Knowledge and understanding of the Net Suite program.
  • Operate forklifts to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
  • If forklift certified, will operate, and maintain preventively production vehicles and equipment, including daily forklift checklist. Will be Hampton Farms licensed forklift operator if applicable.
  • Monitor/Maintain all equipment within the facility (inside and outside)
  • Ensure all machines are up to date on preventative maintenance programs per operating manual
  • Enter work into Maintenance Connect (Maintenance Program)
  • Daily checks of equipment, if needed.
  • Engage in measure of improvement and development of a workable preventative maintenance program.
  • Communication to Maintenance Manager if a problem arises
  • Make sure all machines are properly started and stopped to minimize maintenance and down time.
  • Make sure all trash is removed daily and at the end of the shift.
  • Position requires standing for up to eight hours or more and lifting weights up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Be able to work in extreme environmental changes such as weather.
  • Motivate staff to make an effective and efficient team.
  • Monitor and enforce all company policies giving direction to employees.
  • Operate lift trucks and boom lifts.
  • Be on call according to schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly management meetings.

  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.

Quality Assurance:
  • Knows and adheres to GMP Policy and all Quality policies and procedures
  • Assists in identifying and/or reporting non-conforming product to aid in eliminating waste.
  • ANYONE who is aware of a food safety/quality issue is to stop production immediately and inform Quality Assurance and their Manager or Supervisor of the food safety/quality issue(s) to determine whether or not product/material should be placed on hold.
  • Communicates daily with Quality Assurance Manager to ensure customer specifications are met.

If the Maintenance Technician(s) is out, a trained responsible person shall be designated to run the Maintenance department. Another maintenance Technician will be the designee, there are 2 total Technicians.
Education and Experience:
Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends.
  • Ability to clearly present recommendations/ideas and to summarize issues.
  • Ability to appropriately handle and maintain confidential material.

Desired:
  • 1-3 years' experience in production operations in food manufacturing.
  • 1-3 years' experience with maintenance in food manufacturing.
  • Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Skills/Competencies:
  • Second language (Spanish), a strong plus
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
