Job description

Alternate Public Defender North Central Office: Assistant Public Defender III
The Alternate Public Defender North Central Office is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender III. This office serves the Northeastern (Hall County), Appalachian (Gilmer County), Mountain (Habersham County), and Enotah (White County) Circuits. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position, including preparing cases for trial, zealously advocating and defending their client, seeking and negotiating plea depositions, and entering pleas in the felony cases in Superior Court. Applicants must be current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. A strong commitment to indigent defense is also required.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender III will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony and appellate cases.
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)
