Job Description

Haile Gold Mine located in South Carolina is the largest gold mine on the East Coast of America. Our employees are at the heart of all we do. Join our team, where your expertise can make a true impact! Responsible for managing and overseeing electrical construction of the leach plant circuit expansion, paste plant and surface facilities for the underground projects. The role will involve the management of construction contractors, overseeing the quality control of contractor work, and working with the owners' team to ensure implementation of best practices for maintenance and operation of new equipment and facilities.

Demonstrate a strong focus on Health, Safety and the Environment by:

  • Complying with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
  • Actively promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
  • Reporting all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.
  • Actively supporting and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.
  • Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
  • Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
  • Coordinate incident investigations that occur within area of control.
  • Participates in planning meetings to review drawings, determine priorities, and assist in scheduling the work.
  • Establishes and monitors electrical construction methods and practices for most effective cost control for work schedule, labor, materials, and equipment needs.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations
  • Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and other project documentation related to electrical installations
  • Plan and execute electrical installations according to project specifications
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of contractor electricians and other electrical workers for the Project Team
  • Works with project manager for the control, care/protection, and use of tools, equipment, and company assets on site.
  • Ensure all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications nominated for the works being undertaken.
  • Ensure all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users' requirements.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to maximize efficiency and prevent delays.
  • Assists project manager and engineer with change orders and extra work requests.
  • Works with project engineer to schedule major process equipment deliveries
  • Coordinates electrical work with civil and mechanical work
  • Coordinates with process equipment vendors at start-up.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure the likelihood that workmanship conforms to specifications and meets construction schedules.
  • Meets regularly with engineer and inspectors regarding required work, quality of work, and other job-related issues.
  • Confers with project manager, engineer, and inspectors to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Assists in preparation of progress reports, materials, and job-related costs.
  • Maintain accurate records of project progress, employee performance, and compliance with regulations
  • Coordinate efficiency and relationships between all key personnel involved with the project.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication & reporting on key performance indicators to the Construction Manager and Operations Teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues as they arise
  • Assist with transitioning projects to the operational phase.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain a productive project culture through effective people management and team building.
  • Monitor the contractor teams and align their activities as necessary to ensure requirements are achieved.
  • Communicate regularly with all staff to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood and to promote a harmonious working environment.
  • Knowledge of surface mining plants and equipment in particular:
  • Surface Leach plants
  • Surface Paste Plant
  • Overhead power lines and substations - HV
  • Underground HV and LV infrastructure
  • Surface Ventilation Fans
  • Electrical Instrumentation
  • Manage the flow of technical information between electricians, contractors, mechanics, and mine operations. 
  • Actively exchange technical information and learnings within the organisation to maintain awareness of internal projects, developments and trends 
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities for mining construction by the Projects group.

    Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

  • Ability to engage external consultants and contractors.

  • A high degree of computer literacy is required, with effective skills in MS products desired.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Knowledge and experience with surface facilities for a hard rock operation
  • 15+ years' relevant experience of which 5+ years would have been in a senior electrical construction role
  • Experienced with both start-up projects and operating environments. 
  • Trade Qualifications or Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g. Electrical).
  • MSHA 40 HR Trained or past MSHA training
