Threat Tec brings innovative thinking and extensive experience to complex challenges for public and private sector customers. We work alongside our nation's defenders, developing solutions that drive success and protect our future. Join a team that is embodied by an unwavering commitment to professionalism, honesty, and innovation.

About the Role

Threat Tec is a defense prototyping and low-rate production shop supporting U.S. national security missions. Our work is hands-on, varied, and engineering-driven—new designs, new materials, and real problems to solve.
We’re hiring a Senior CNC Machinist/Programmer to own and grow our 5-axis capability and help turn it into a dependable, revenue-generating production center. If you like figuring out how to make complex parts work—and you take pride in delivering to spec—this is a high-impact seat.
Onsite Equipment
  • Brand new Haas UMC-1000SS (5-axis) machining center (UMC-1000SS experience preferred; equivalent 5-axis VMC experience welcomed)
  • Milltronics ML18/60 CNC lathe (CNC + manual modes)
  • CAM: Mastercam, Fusion 360 (Manufacture), and/or SolidCAM (any one is fine)
  • Inspection: portable CMM arm (we run a Sylvac/Kreon arm)
Responsibilities
  • Program from drawings and 3D models (STEP/IGES/SolidWorks), generate toolpaths, and run parts end-to-end
  • Set up and operate the 5-axis Haas and lathe for prototypes and low-rate production (one-offs to small batches)
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspection; produce inspection documentation to customer/government requirements
  • Partner with mechanical/electrical engineers to translate designs into manufacturable, repeatable processes
  • Triage new work: define approach, tooling, fixturing, timeline, and risk—then execute
  • When outside processing is required, identify the operation, recommend vendors, and help manage the flow
  • Own machine health: offsets, tooling, coolant, PM, and shop readiness
Required Experience
  • 5-Axis Machining
  • Haas UMC-1000SS (preferred) or equivalent trunnion-style 5-axis VMC
  • Simultaneous 5-axis programming and operation
  • Comfortable with high-speed spindle work (12,000+ RPM)
  • Able to prove out, tune, and run accurate multi-axis work independently
  • Lathe
  • Milltronics ML18/60 or equivalent CNC/manual lathe
  • Proficient in CNC and manual modes
  • Turned parts from 0.25" to 19" diameter
  • Threading, boring, and gap-bed operations
  • CAM + Metrology
  • Proficient in at least one: Mastercam / Fusion 360 (Manufacture) / SolidCAM
  • Able to go from model to verified G-code with minimal engineering support
  • Experience with portable CMM arms (Faro/Romer/etc.); able to produce first-article reports
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years CNC machining experience, including 2+ years on 5-axis
  • Materials experience: 6061/7075, 4140/4340, 304/316, Ti-6Al-4V, Delrin/UHMW
  • Holds ±0.001" routinely and ±0.0005" when required
  • Strong GD&T interpretation (ASME Y14.5)
  • U.S. Citizen and able to pass background investigation for Secret clearance
  • On-site in Hampton Roads, VA
Desired Qualifications
  • Active Secret/TS clearance
  • DoD prototype/LRIP experience
  • AS9100 / ISO 9001 familiarity
  • Haas NGC control experience
  • Naval systems, weapons systems, or UAS hardware experience
  • Large-format 3D printing, foam cutting, Cerakote, basic fixture welding
Benefits
  • Competitive Salary
  • Health, dental, vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Real opportunity to help build a growing manufacturing operation inside a scaling defense company
