Senior CNC Programmer and Operator– 3-Axis & 5-Axis Haas Mills (Mastercam)

This is not a programming-only desk role; the selected candidate must be capable of operating Haas CNC mills, supporting setups, proving out programs, troubleshooting at the machine, and driving parts successfully from print to production.

ABC Sheet Metal is a growing aerospace manufacturer seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to support the production of precision aerospace components, tooling, fixtures, and secondary machining operations. This is a hands-on role responsible for programming, setup support, prove-outs, tooling selection, fixture development, and continuous process improvement on Haas 3-axis and 5-axis machining centers.

We are looking for a programmer who can take a part from print to production—not someone who only creates toolpaths.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs using Mastercam for Haas 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines.
• Develop machining strategies for 2.5D, 3D, 3+2, and simultaneous 5-axis operations.
• Generate setup sheets, tool lists, work instructions, and revision-controlled program packages.
• Support machine setups, prove-outs, first article inspections, and production launches.
• Work directly with machinists, engineering, and quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Select and optimize cutting tools, tool holders, inserts, and machining parameters for maximum performance and tool life.
• Design, develop, and improve fixtures, soft jaws, workholding systems, and custom tooling to improve repeatability and reduce setup time.
• Review engineering drawings, models, and GD&T requirements to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
• Provide DFM feedback and recommend process improvements during product development.
• Support AS9100 quality requirements, first article inspections, and controlled manufacturing documentation.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, setup reduction, tooling optimization, scrap reduction, and process stability.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of CNC programming experience in a milling environment.
• Minimum 3 years of advanced Mastercam programming experience.
• Experience programming both 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines.
• Direct experience with Haas machining centers strongly preferred.
• Proven experience supporting machine setups, prove-outs, and program validation.
• Strong understanding of tooling selection, cutter engagement, speeds and feeds, chip control, and machining strategy.
• Proven experience designing fixtures, workholding solutions, soft jaws, and custom tooling.
• Ability to independently develop complete machining processes from print review through production release.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and aerospace drawing interpretation.
• Experience performing first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace, defense, space, medical device, or other high-precision manufacturing experience.
• Experience with Haas UMC-Series 5-axis machining centers.
• Knowledge of Haas DWO, TCPC, MRZP, probing systems, and rotary calibration.
• Experience with Vericut or similar CNC simulation software.
• Familiarity with Macro B programming and post-processor edits.
• Experience working within AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Mastercam Certification or NIMS credentials.
