About GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd.
GrizzlyTrek invests in our people, relationships, and partners, ensuring motivated and ready-to-work individuals meet job opportunities that foster lasting success. We work across Canada in mining, construction, oil and gas, turnarounds, and shutdowns. Dedicated to sustainable employment, we emphasize career opportunities and empowerment for Indigenous communities across Canada. Join us and contribute to building a more inclusive future.
The Role
GrizzlyTrek is seeking one CNC Lathe Machinist to join our valued client’s team at a modern machine shop in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a full-time, permanent, year-round position on a Monday to Friday day shift. You are an experienced CNC turning hand with at least three years on the machines. You set your own tooling, plan your own machining sequence, read drawings and connection specifications without hand-holding, and gauge your own work with micrometers, calipers, and thread gauges.
Oilfield tubular and premium connection threading experience is a strong asset, but it is not mandatory. If your CNC lathe fundamentals are solid, your background can come from OCTG or tubular manufacturing, downhole tools, wellheads, valves, pressure equipment, large-part or production turning, industrial repair shops, or general precision manufacturing. Experience on Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Doosan, Weiler, or similar controls, and comfort editing G-code and M-code at the machine, will move your application to the top of the list.
Machinist Red Seal certification is an asset, not a requirement. Machinist is an optional certification trade in Alberta, so we assess applicants on proven ability at the machine rather than on paper alone.
What You’ll Do
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes machining oilfield tubular connections, including API and premium threads
  • Select cutting tools, inserts, and specialized threading tooling appropriate to each job and material
  • Plan the machining sequence and determine the most efficient and accurate order of operations
  • Interpret machining drawings, work orders, and connection specifications, including API 5CT and API 5B requirements
  • Edit G-code and M-code and adjust offsets, feeds, and speeds at the control to hold tolerance
  • Operate the tubular loading and material handling system
  • Gauge threads and verify dimensions using micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, and connection inspection instruments
  • Complete first-piece, in-process, and final inspections, and document results accurately
  • Troubleshoot dimensional, surface finish, and tool wear issues, and correct them at the source
  • Mentor junior operators on setup, measurement technique, and safe work practice
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and keep the machine and work area clean and safe
What You Bring
  • Three or more years of hands-on CNC lathe machining experience
  • Proven ability to complete your own setups, tooling changes, and offset adjustments without supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, and written specifications
  • Confident use of micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, and other precision measuring instruments
  • Working knowledge of G-code and M-code and the ability to edit programs at the control
  • Sound judgement on tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and machining sequence
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a consistent commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and to support and coach less experienced team members
  • Commitment to safe work practice and to site PPE requirements
Preferred Qualifications
These are assets, not automatic requirements. Strong CNC lathe fundamentals matter more than any single item on this list.
  • API, OCTG, or premium connection threading experience
  • Familiarity with API 5CT or API 5B requirements
  • Thread gauging and connection inspection experience
  • Experience on Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Doosan, Weiler, or similar CNC lathe controls
  • Large-part, heavy, or high-volume production turning experience
  • Machinist apprenticeship hours or Red Seal certification
  • Current WHMIS, First Aid, or overhead crane and rigging tickets
Work Environment
  • Active indoor industrial machine shop: modern, clean, and well lit
  • Work around CNC equipment, tubular products, metal chips, cutting fluids, and material handling systems
  • Required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, and CSA-approved safety boots
  • Home every night. No camp, no travel rotation, no fly-in work
What We Offer
  • Permanent, year-round employment on a Monday to Friday day shift
  • Specialized oilfield and premium connection threading experience that builds your resume
  • Indoor work through the winter and home every night
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications
  • Opportunities for overtime based on operational requirements
  • Life insurance: $100,000 employee / $10,000 spouse / $5,000 per child
  • AD&D insurance with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health care: drugs, hospital, hearing, orthotics, nursing
  • Paramedical services: chiro, physio, massage, mental health (annual coverage)
  • Vision care: glasses, contacts, laser surgery, and exams
  • Dental care: 80% basic ($2,500), 50% major ($2,500), $2,500 ortho for children
  • Travel insurance: up to $5,000,000 per incident (trips up to 90 days)
  • Ongoing training and career development support

No Red Seal? No API threading yet? If you can set up and run a CNC lathe, apply and tell us what machines, controls, materials, and gauges you have worked with.
