BUILDING/DEPARTMENT Lowell High School ACTIVITY Athletics POSITION Girls Cross Country Assistant Varsity Coach OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE The Cross Country Varsity Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching student-athletes in strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The coach motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Works closely with student-athletes to develop good character on and off the field. Assists teachers, counselors, and other school personnel with student-athlete attendance, academics, and behavior in and out of cross country season.ย  STUDENT ELIGIBILITY AND PROGRAM SIZE
  • 9th grade - varsity
  • 20-30 student-athletes
LENGTH OF PROGRAM
  • In-Season:
    • 11 weeks
    • Contests: 14
    • Monday-Saturday
  • Out-of-Season:
    • Limited Contact Winter: 18 practices
    • Limited Contact Spring: 12 practices
    • Summer: 8 weeks
MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES
  • Attends organizational meetings for the team and coaches
  • Participates in special activities to include banquets, awards nights, and pep assemblies
  • Attends annual athletic department meetings and seasonal player/parent meetings
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improveย  coaching performance
  • Maintains certifications via NFHS/IHSAA
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and teamย  development
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Observes players, during competitions and practices, to determine the needs for individual or teamย  improvement
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes atย  all times
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury
  • Encourages players to play multiple sports
  • Follows IHSAA regulations governing the athletic program
  • Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, andย  spectators
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment,ย  supplies, and uniforms
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, andย  other related records
OTHER INFORMATION
  • Assists in conducting a youth camp during the summer
  • Assists in conducting fundraiser(s) when permitted and approved
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the school principal, athletic director, or other appropriate administrators
  • Works closely with the feeder program to foster growth and athletic development of future student-athletes
  • Is a participating member of state and/or national coach's association
  • Provides transportation for team members via the Tri-Creek activity bus when applicable
