What is a gutter installer?

Gutter installers are professionals who specialize in installing, repairing, and maintaining gutter systems on buildings. Their work ensures that rainwater is effectively channeled away from roofs and foundations to prevent water damage. Gutter installers measure, cut, and assemble gutter materials such as aluminum, vinyl, or steel, and securely attach them to homes or commercial structures. They may also clean, inspect, and replace sections of gutters as needed to maintain proper function. This role often requires knowledge of roofing systems, safety practices, and the ability to work at heights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a gutter installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Gutter Installer, you need skills in measuring, cutting, and installing gutters, along with basic carpentry or roofing experience and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand and power tools, ladders, safety equipment, and sometimes OSHA certification is typical. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and good communication help installers stand out when working on various sites and with clients. These abilities are crucial for ensuring safe, accurate installations that protect properties from water damage and maintain customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by gutter installers and how can they be managed on the job?

Gutter installers often encounter challenges such as working at heights, managing inclement weather, and ensuring precise measurements for proper drainage. Staying up-to-date with safety protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment can help mitigate risks. Additionally, collaborating closely with team members and maintaining clear communication with clients are key to addressing installation issues and meeting project deadlines.

Sales Leader - Premium Gutter & Gutter Guard Systems
St. Louis Metro Area | W-2 | 9% Commission + $250 Weekly Leadership Stipend
The Brothers That Just Do Gutters is hiring a high-performance Sales Leader to help drive sales growth throughout the St. Louis metro area.
This is a player-coach sales role, not a desk management position. Your primary responsibility will still be running leads, meeting with homeowners, selling premium gutter and gutter guard systems, and closing business. In addition, you will help coach, train, support, and hold the sales team accountable.
The right person for this role is an experienced closer who still wants to sell, but also has the ability and desire to lead other salespeople to higher performance.
Why This Is a Strong Opportunity
Most of our leads come from homeowners who contact us directly because they want or need our services. A successful rep can expect approximately 16-20 leads per week, creating a strong opportunity for someone who knows how to run appointments, build value, follow up, and close.
We sell premium gutter, gutter guard, and water-management solutions by educating homeowners, diagnosing the right solution, and earning trust. We do not use four-hour, high-pressure sales tactics. We need skilled closers who can sell value, communicate clearly, overcome objections, and confidently ask for the business.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to stay close to the action, keep earning strong commissions, and help build a winning sales team.
Compensation
This is a W-2 sales leadership role with a strong performance-based compensation structure:
  • 9% straight commission on personal sales
  • $250 weekly leadership stipend
  • W-2 employment
  • High upside based on performance
  • Realistic strong income potential for a proven closer and leader

This role is best suited for someone who is motivated by commission, wants control over their income, and is willing to be accountable for both personal sales results and team performance.
Benefits & Perks
  • Health insurance available
  • PTO
  • 401(k) matching
  • Company vehicle available after one week of training
  • Uniforms provided
  • Sales and product training
  • Leadership opportunity with a growing sales team
  • Strong brand with a proven home services model
  • Clear performance expectations and career growth opportunities

What You'll Do
As Sales Leader, you will continue to run your own sales appointments while also helping lead a team of 3-5 sales representatives.
Your role will include both personal selling and sales leadership.
Sales Leadership Responsibilities
  • Coach, support, and help develop the sales team
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and retaining sales representatives
  • Lead weekly sales meetings and sales training sessions
  • Help drive sales KPIs, including closing rate, revenue sold, average ticket, gross profit, and gutter guard sales
  • Field calls from sales reps to answer questions, provide guidance, and assist with closing strategy
  • Hold the team accountable to performance expectations
  • Help identify profitable projects and opportunities for growth
  • Work with ownership and production leadership to improve systems, communication, and sales performance
  • Help create a competitive, professional, high-accountability sales culture

Personal Sales Responsibilities
  • Attend scheduled estimates on time and prepared
  • Inspect gutter systems and identify homeowner needs
  • Present premium gutter, gutter guard, and specialty gutter solutions
  • Explain product differences so customers understand the value of what they are buying
  • Price new opportunities within 48 hours of the on-site visit using company production rates
  • Follow up consistently on all open bids until you get a clear "yes" or "no"
  • Maintain a minimum closing rate of 40%
  • Target and pursue profitable jobs
  • Return incoming calls professionally and promptly
  • Maintain accurate information in the company CRM
  • Communicate job details clearly to production and field teams
  • Visit sold jobs as needed to support customers, crews, and project success
  • Ask customers for referrals and generate additional business
  • Participate in networking opportunities to build relationships and promote the company
  • Set and achieve goals for sales volume, closing rate, average ticket, gutter guard sales, and gross profit

What We're Looking For
We are looking for a proven sales professional who can both close business personally and lead other salespeople by example.
Must-haves:
  • Proven sales experience
  • Clean driver's license
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Confidence asking for the sale
  • Ability to coach, train, and hold others accountable
  • Strong follow-up habits
  • Tech-savvy and able to use a CRM
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude
  • Results-driven mindset
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work well with ownership, office staff, production teams, and installers

Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience selling gutters, gutter guards, roofing, windows, siding, or other exterior home services
  • In-home sales experience
  • One-call close experience
  • Several years of experience selling premium home improvement products
  • Prior experience leading, coaching, or managing salespeople
  • Experience improving sales KPIs and team performance
  • Experience prospecting, networking, and generating referral business

Who Thrives Here
The right person for this role is a closer first and a leader second. You still love selling, running appointments, and winning business, but you also know how to make the people around you better.
You will do well here if you:
  • Want to keep selling and earning strong commissions
  • Are motivated by performance-based pay
  • Can lead by example instead of just managing from behind a desk
  • Know how to sell value, not just price
  • Can coach sales reps without making excuses for them
  • Are comfortable holding people accountable
  • Follow up until you get an answer
  • Care about customer experience and production success
  • Want to help build a high-performing sales team
