Skilled Laborer Pipelayer- Civil
JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:
The Skilled Laborer Assistant Pipelayer will be responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks like digging trenches, handling materials and preparing pipes for installation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Measuring and configuring pipe routes,
  • Gathering material and installation tools,
  • Digging trenches using hand and machine trenching tools,
  • Locating installed piping systems using magnetic or radio indicators,
  • Removing old or broken piping systems,
  • Laying pipes into trenches and applying pipe spacers,
  • Checking pipe alignment and sealing pipes with cement glue,
  • Installing auxiliary lines,
  • Sealing exposed pipe joints and fittings,
  • Filling and sealing pipe trenches,
  • Spreading gravel, asphalt and other materials over surfaces,
  • Set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up debris and remove waste materials,
  • Installation of erosion and sediment controls (i.e. silt fence, super silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.),
  • Loading, unloading, transporting pipes, tools and equipment to the worksite,
  • Basic knowledge of the different types of pipes, their installation methods, and plumbing/piping concepts,
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required,
  • Must have 2 years of experience working in heavy highway construction,
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans,
  • Driver's license preferred with a clean driving record,
  • Knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains,
  • Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction work,
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concrete,
  • OSHA 30 preferred,
  • Flagger License desired,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:
  • Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, noisy, near fumes, vapor, dust, oils, loud noises, and potentially hazardous around heavy machinery that is constantly moving,
  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.,
  • Kneel, bend, stretching, twisting, reaching, using abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly or over time without tiring,
  • In addition, you must have the ability to be on stand for an extended period,
  • This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts),
  • Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
