This dual-specialty position combines the advanced, master-level capabilities of a Gunsmith III with the technical maintenance skills of an Electronics Technician I. The incumbent serves as a highly skilled multi-disciplinary technician responsible for both advanced small arms engineering and complex electro-mechanical maintenance.
In the weapons domain, the position requires the equivalent of a formal one- to two-year accredited gunsmithing course or master-level equivalent work experience. The incumbent possesses an expert understanding of internal, external, and terminal ballistics, and can build custom pistols, rifles, and advanced weapons systems with zero supervision. Perform Special Repair Facility Level maintenance. In this capacity, the incumbent also provides direct training and supervision to subordinate gunsmiths.
In the electronics domain, the incumbent maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, and installs various electronic systems, including transmitting/receiving equipment (radio, telecommunications, navigational aids), computing terminals, and measuring, controlling, they apply technical knowledge of electronics principles, schematics, and manufacturing manuals to diagnose malfunctions and restore systems to optimal status. While executing advanced weapons tasks independently, the incumbent works under immediate supervision for complex electronic tasks, receiving technical guidance as required from senior electronics technicians or supervisors.
Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary Journeyman repairer for all small arms, including pistols, rifles, shotguns, carbines, grenade launchers, submachine guns, mortars, cannons, howitzers, and associated mounts, tripods, and tactical accessories.
• Performs the full range of hands-on maintenance, repair, calibration, and complete overhaul of both mechanical weapons systems and electronic components.
• Makes initial acceptance inspections, diagnosing and locating mechanical, structural, and electronic deficiencies or malfunctions.
• Performs complete disassembly and thoroughly inspects all components using visual, gauge, or specialized operational testing to determine exact repair requirements. Replaces worn, broken, or obsolete parts in strict accordance with technical manuals, manufacturer specifications, and Department of the Army (DA) modification work orders.
• Conducts specialized bore scope and pullover inspections on M1A2, M109A6, and other heavy cannon-related equipment, meticulously documenting findings on the DA Form 2408-4 weapons card.
• Diagnoses and solves electronic malfunctions using specialized Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) such as multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes.
• Replace defective electronic components and wiring, and adjusts mechanical and electronic parts using hand tools, soldering irons, desoldering stations, and alignment jigs.
• Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates both electronic control systems and precision mechanical weapons systems to meet exact technical specifications.
• Maintains meticulous physical vault security, inventory control, and documentation of weapons, ammunition, and sensitive items in compliance with company, federal, and military regulations.
• Maintains detailed, accurate written records of all repairs, calibrations, inspections, and time expenditures.
• Directly trains, mentors, and supervises subordinate gunsmithing personnel while coordinating with senior electronics personnel to ensure cross-functional team compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have a security clearance or able to obtain one (Preference will be give to those with an active clearance).
• Education:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Formal military or civilian training in small arms repair specific to 45/91F series.
• Experience:
• Two years administrative experience with some knowledge of military operations and schedules.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Must also possess a working knowledge of office tools/programs.
