JobSummary
Assists store customers in donating, selecting, andpurchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds tocustomer's questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the storedisplays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.
Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items fordisplay in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based onestablished standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanlinessof the warehouse area.

Store Clerk Responsibilities (40%)
Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Armyby ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts changeand prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares andbalances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares anddelivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cashregister funds and sales records in accordance with established operatingprocedures.
Prepares, processes and maintains various sales records, taxforms, and social service vouchers; prepares routine sales reports as directed.
Maintains the neatness and security of the cash registerarea; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and respondingto questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that allcustomers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donation items to The SalvationArmy; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area, may assist withhauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts asneeded.
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checksall store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neatand orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns itemsto the proper location after customers have handled.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteousmanner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directionsand/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.
Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mopsfloors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in aclean and inviting manner.
Opens and/or closes store door in accordance with the storeschedule.
Sorting Room Worker Responsibilities(40%)
Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes,shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category andcondition.
Selects items suitable for store display and distributessame to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards; items inaccordance with established procedures.
Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices inaccordance with established procedures.
Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists intransporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.
Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination forfurther processing, storage or displaying in store.
Maintains warehouse are in a neat and orderly manner; cleansfloors, tables and work area.
OtherResponsibilities (20%)
Assists in pricing and tagging items in the store inaccordance with established procedures.
Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/outof the store
Assists in disaster relief projects as needed.
Monitors volunteers working in the Family Store andwarehouse.
May assist in answering the telephone; provides generalinformation and records messages.
May assist in preparing receipts for donations.
Help to keep the bathrooms and dressing rooms cleaned.
Performs otherrelated work as required.

Ability to perform frequent waling and/or standing,kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting. Physical ability to lift and carry and/orpush/pull light objects (less than 25 pounds)
Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed bycombinations of sitting, standing, and waling on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the samebuilding.
Ability to operate a cash register.
WorkingConditions
Work is performed in a normal store environment where thereare little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather.
Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there arephysical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomfortsassociated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
