What you can expect as an Guidewire Developer III:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Guidewire PolicyCenter Performance Developer to lead performance engineering across our Guidewire PolicyCenter platform and insurance Suite applications. This role requires deep expertise in Guidewire configuration, Gosu development, and enterprise-scale performance optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong insurance background and hands-on experience with P&C implementations. Candidate will design, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot performance-related aspects of Guidewire PolicyCenter to ensure the platform remains highly available, scalable, and responsive.

Development & Configuration

  • Design, develop, and configure Guidewire PolicyCenter modules including policy lifecycle, underwriting rules, rating, and product model
  • Write and optimize Gosu code (Guidewire's proprietary scripting language) following best practices
  • Develop and maintain PCF (Page Configuration Framework) screens and UI enhancements
  • Build and maintain integration points using REST/SOAP APIs and Guidewire Integration Framework

Performance Engineering

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for critical performance issues in production and pre-production environments
  • Perform deep-dive profiling of JVM, thread pools, connection pools, GC (Garbage Collection) behavior, and caching layers
  • Optimize SQL queries, ORM mappings, and database interaction patterns within Guidewire's data model
  • Drive load testing strategy and execution using enterprise tools (JMeter, Gatling, K6)
  • Establish and own SLA benchmarks, performance baselines, and continuous monitoring frameworks
  • Evaluate and implement Guidewire-specific tuning levers — Messaging, Batch, Workflow, and Cluster configurations
  • Coordinates performance regression testing across major releases, patches, and cloud migrations

Database & Query Optimization

  • Write and tune complex SQL queries against Guidewire's data model
  • Analyze execution plans and implement indexing strategies
  • Optimize ORM behavior and reduce N+1 query issues in Gosu layer
  • Collaborate with DBAs on schema-level performance improvements

Testing & Quality

  • Develop and execute performance test plans and scripts
  • Establish performance baselines and SLA benchmarks
  • Conduct regression performance testing across releases and upgrades
  • Document findings and provide actionable remediation recommendations

Collaboration & Support

  • Reports to Director of Application Support and work closely with production support team, architects, business analysts, QA, and infrastructure teams
  • Participate in code reviews with a performance-focused lens
  • Support production performance incidents and provide RCA (Root Cause Analysis)
  • Work closely with testing automation team to automate performance testing practices.
  • Assist in Guidewire cloud (GWCP) platform migrations and optimizations


What we are looking for as an Guidewire Developer III:

  • Guidewire ACE (Aces Certified Expert) certification in PolicyCenter
  • Experience with Guidewire Digital portals
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI)
  • Experience with Kubernetes/containerized Guidewire deployments
  • Proficiency with logging tools like OpenSearch
  • 10+ years in Guidewire PolicyCenter development
  • PolicyCenter deep expertise and experience with BillingCenter / ClaimCenter and Contact Manager a plus
  • JMeter, Gatling, K6, Grafana, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic, or similar APM tools
  • SQL tuning, SQL Server and execution plan analysis
  • Gosu, Java, XML
  • REST, SOAP, Guidewire Integration Framework, Messaging
  • AWS basics and Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP)
  • Load/stress/soak testing methodologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Relevant Guidewire certifications are a strong advantage
