Job description

Nature of Work:                                   

A non-sworn employee who under limited direction participates in the activities of a School Crossing Guard on an assigned shift; or performs responsible administrative staff duties. Supervision is exercised over School Crossing Guards.

Summary:

Incumbents of this class frequently participate in the work performed by School Crossing Guards, and in some assignments are required to become involved in situations requiring moderate physical exertion. School Crossing Guard Supervisors will often assume complete charge of City School Crossing Guard operations in the absence of a higher-ranking officer. School Crossing Guard Supervisors work independently in performing regularly assigned duties under the general orders of a Police Sergeant or other higher-ranking supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation, oral and written reports, and by results obtained. 

Minimum Requirements:

Employees must be able to communicate in English and supply their own transportation to and from job sites.

  • Must have 6 months previous experience working with children
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass background screening
  • Experience working as a school crossing guard. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations and general knowledge of local geography
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish and/or Creole
