Responsibilities

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is hiring a Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster in our Complex Unit. The Complex Claims Adjuster handles New Jersey loss time workers' compensation claims, including litigated files, across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Determine compensability and coverage for workers' compensation claims
  • Negotiate and complete settlements within established authority levels
  • Gather and review medical and factual evidence
  • Coordinate outside investigations
  • Manage defense counsel and litigation activity
  • Communicate with claimants, attorneys, investigators, rehabilitation providers, insureds, medical providers, and agents
  • Maintain claim handling and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience handling New Jersey loss time workers' compensation claims, including litigated claims
  • Experience working for an insurance carrier
  • Ability to handle claims across multiple jurisdictions
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to evaluate claims, negotiate settlements, and manage multiple open files
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements.

Salary $50,000 - $100,000

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a goodfaith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of any of our office locations, including:

New York, NY; Parsippany, NJ; Conshohocken, PA; WilkesBarre, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Rosemont, IL; Plano, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; and Rancho Cordova, CA.
