Job Description

The NYC Department of Probation (DOP) is a world leader in working creatively and effectively engaging with people under court-mandated community supervision. Through innovative partnerships with people and organizations throughout the New York City, DOP provides opportunities for those on probation to access services and opportunities that positively impact their life trajectory. Following the best current data on "what works," staff at DOP engage in meaningful relationships with those on probation to enhance community safety and decrease recidivism.
The New York City Department of Probation is seeking a Summer Creative Intern to work on a mix of Graphic Design/Digital/Social and Video Production projects. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Design and Media programs potentially including Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. As well as similar online tools such as Canva and Figma. In this dynamic position, you'll lend your expertise in design and video to a range of projects relating to Communications. Whether you're editing videos for our digital signage system, designing social media graphics, shooting footage of press events or other media, the selected candidate should bring a keen eye and a flair for the creative to every task. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conceive, design, and create graphic layouts in collaboration with the Creative Director.
- Create video rough cuts.
- Provide support to video production staff including scheduling, development, shoot, set-up etc.
- Organize and maintain digital files.
- Provide video and still photography for events.
- Provide logistical support for events.
- Assist in the creation of professional promotional materials.
- Design mockups for social media and other digital campaigns.
- Work with small teams to create and implement marketing campaigns.
- Create engaging social media content.
- Online outreach and promotion using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, the agency website, and various other platforms.
- Assist with research and special projects as needed.
The Department of Probation is always looking for new tools and applications, so in addition to production work, the selected candidate will be spending time doing research and making contributions to the future of the agency.
