Job SummaryThe GSMC Driver/Security Guard is an essential member of Good Samaritans Mobile Clinic, a pioneering program dedicated to providing healthcare services to underserved populations in Kern County. Good Samaritans mission is to deliver equitable, quality, and compassionate medical and behavioral health care to sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness in Kern County in the setting of their choice.
Through mobile clinics and outreach efforts, GSMC bridges gaps in healthcare accessibility by delivering compassionate medical care directly to individuals experiencing housing insecurity and suffering from substance use disorders. The GSMC RV Driver/Security Guard ensures safe reliable transportation for staff, supplies, and equipment. While maintaining the safety of the team and clients. Additionally, the role supports the upkeep and organization of the team's van, enabling seamless operations that reflect GSMC commitment to dignity, care, and innovation in healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities RV Driver Duties: - Transportation: Safely operate the GSMC (Good Samaritans Mobile Clinic) is based on a large-scale RV to transport staff, supplies, and equipment to outreach locations, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct required vehicle inspections following the maintenance schedule and checklists, including tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, brakes, and overall condition. Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations) and promptly report any repair needs. Ensure the GSMC is fueled, clean, and operational to support Good Samaritans mobile clinic schedule.
- Logistics Coordination: Plan and navigate routes to outreach locations, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery.
- Equipment Loading/Unloading: Safely and efficiently load and unload medical equipment, supplies, and materials as well as following the documentation requirements for outreach activities.
Security Guard Duties: - Team Safety: Monitor outreach environments to identify and address possible safety risks to the team members, and the Security Manager. Maintain a high level of situation awareness
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate conflicts with professionalism and respect, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for clients and team members.
- Access Control: Secure the GSMC workspace and ensure only authorized individuals' approach or access team equipment and supplies.
- Incident Reporting: Document and report any security concerns, incidents, or unsafe conditions to the GSMC team lead or the security manager.
- Emergency Response: Maintain deep knowledge of emergency protocols and be able to assist and execute them including evacuations or contacting local authorities when needed.
Requirements
Requirements - Valid California Guard Card
- Valid Class C driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Commercial license not required but preferred
- Experience in maneuver large Scale RVs preferred
- Experience in a driver or security role preferred; familiarity with street medicine or addiction recovery settings is a plus.
- Prior experience in military, law enforcement, or correctional services is preferred
- CPR
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record; experience in defensive driving preferred.
- HWC certification within 30 days of employment.
- IAHSS Certification is welcome but not required.
- Ability to analyze problems, exercise independent judgment, and interact effectively with the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and adopt quick, effective courses of action.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions - Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 35 pounds frequently, and/or up to 15 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Potential for musculoskeletal injuries due to possible patient take downs and altercations.
- Potential exposure to infectious processes and hazardous substances within the clinic or outreach environment.
- Required to work some weekends and holidays; shifts may be adjusted per operational needs.
