Director of Tax Job Description
The Director of Tax reports to the VP of Finance and will own day-to-day tax operations across the MyFundedFutures entity structure, including state and local tax (SALT; income/ franchise tax and sales and use tax), international tax (GRT/VAT), and income tax compliance and provision. MyFundedFutures retains a third-party tax compliance firm to execute federal and state income tax return filings, and we plan to continue that relationship. This position is responsible for overseeing tax compliance, reporting, and planning across a fast-growing, multi-entity holding company with an expanding multistate and cross-border footprint.
As MyFundedFutures scales across new states, markets, and entities, this role will be central to assisting the Finance team in building a right-sized tax operating model, including the processes, governance, and external advisor support required to keep a lean organization compliant and efficient. This position requires strong technical expertise in SALT, multi-entity structures with both LLCs and Corporations, a hands-on approach, and the ability to work across a small, fast-moving team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee state and local tax (SALT) strategy across the entity group, including nexus determination, apportionment, franchise filings, and sales and use tax compliance - the company's third-party tax compliance firm executes federal and state income tax return filings, but does not support sales tax or GRT filings; this role owns those filings directly.
  • Lead nexus remediation and voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs) where historical exposure exists, and build the process so new exposure is identified early
  • Own international indirect tax obligations, including GRT/VAT, treaty positions, and information reporting.
  • Oversee preparation and review of income tax provisions, estimates, and forecasts across all entities, partnering with the company's third-party tax compliance firm on federal and state income tax return execution, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage 1099 filings across the entity group - vendor and contractor information reporting, form issuance, and coordination with the 1099 filing platform used
  • Coordinate transfer pricing and intercompany documentation with VP of Finance as the structure grows
  • Manage tax notices, tax audits, and examinations across jurisdictions from first notice to resolution
  • Partner closely with legal and executive leadership to support business decisions, cash management, and compliance requirements
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across state and international jurisdictions and assess implications for the business
  • Support tax planning for new entities, products, and expansion into new states and markets, including modeling the tax impact of structural decisions
  • Communicate tax risks, positions, and implications to senior leadership in a clear and concise manner

Key Focus Areas
  • Build vs. inherit: stand up core tax processes, governance, and controls in an organization that is still maturing its finance function
  • Right-sized operating model: balance a lean internal structure with effective use of external advisors - including the third-party firm handling federal/state income tax filings - while directly owning sales tax, GRT, 1099 reporting, and everything else outside that firm's scope
  • Risk management: ensure appropriate controls and defensible positions across a live multistate and cross-border footprint
  • Consistency with local execution: maintain group standards while meeting the specific requirements of each state and jurisdiction
  • Scalability: establish processes that can evolve as the group adds entities, products, and markets

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience, including hands-on work in both SALT and international indirect tax
  • Strong background in multistate nexus, apportionment, and sales and use tax
  • Working knowledge of cross-border tax obligations, including withholding, treaties, and information reporting
  • Experience with multi-entity structures, including partnerships and corporations, and the associated compliance and provision work
  • Demonstrated ability to build or improve tax processes rather than inherit a mature function
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a lean, fast-paced, and evolving environment, including working alongside outside advisors on shared scope
