Growth Account Manager information

What is a growth account manager?

A Growth Account Manager is a professional responsible for nurturing existing client relationships while identifying opportunities to expand business within those accounts. Their primary goal is to drive revenue growth by upselling, cross-selling, and ensuring client satisfaction. They collaborate closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet clients’ evolving needs. By leveraging data and strong communication skills, Growth Account Managers help clients achieve their goals and maximize the value of the partnership.

How does a growth account manager typically collaborate with sales and marketing teams to drive client expansion?

Growth Account Managers frequently work closely with both sales and marketing teams to identify and pursue expansion opportunities within existing client accounts. This collaboration often involves sharing client feedback, aligning on upsell or cross-sell strategies, and jointly developing tailored proposals or campaigns. Regular communication ensures that the account manager’s insights into client needs inform marketing messaging and that sales efforts are coordinated for maximum impact. By working together, these teams can ensure a seamless client experience and drive meaningful growth across key accounts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a growth account manager, and why are they important?

Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in this role. These abilities enable you to drive client success, identify expansion opportunities, and achieve revenue growth targets in a competitive environment.

Job description

BEL Promo is looking for a self-starting, results-driven sales professional to own and grow a portfolio of strategic and SMB growth accounts. As the National Account Lead, you will develop proactive, data-driven strategies to expand existing business, uncover new opportunities, and grow smaller accounts into large strategic partnerships. This is a hunter-focused role that requires strong business development, strategic account planning, and close collaboration with internal teams to drive revenue growth across your book of business.
Essential Functions: (The reason this job exists is to perform these functions. These functions are performed regularly, seriously impacts other jobs, and there are a limited number of employees whose performance of the function can be distributed.)
Account Intelligence & Strategy Development
  • Analyze previous account data, order history, and purchasing patterns to understand what each account buys, how much they have purchased over time, and where growth potential exists.
  • Identify key decision-makers and influencers within each account and build multi-threaded relationships across the organization.
  • Evaluate each account's vertical market position and buying behavior to inform where and how to grow their spend.
  • Build account-specific growth strategies, strategic campaigns, and storyboards that lay out how each account will be grown over time.
  • Establish and maintain a disciplined call cadence per account to ensure consistent engagement, follow-through, and strategy execution.
  • Maintain accurate, current account and order data in Bing Dynamics (CRM) to support strategy, forecasting, and reporting.
  • View each account as an extension of Bel Promo's own sales force, equipping them with the tools, samples, and campaigns needed to position Bel Promo items and solutions to their customers.

Growth Account Portfolio Development
  • Manage an assigned book of small-to-medium business (SMB) growth accounts alongside the large core strategic accounts.
  • Apply the same account, order, and vertical market analysis used on core accounts to identify which growth accounts have the greatest potential to grow.
  • Build and execute growth strategies, campaigns, and call cadences for growth accounts with the goal of developing them into large core strategic accounts for Bel Promo.
  • Track growth account progress in Bing Dynamics (CRM) and graduate qualifying accounts into the core book as they reach large core account status.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Hold and lead the strategic direction for each account in the book - setting the plan that all supporting roles execute against.
  • Partner with Business Development Associates, directing their efforts to help execute the account growth strategy.
  • Work with Customer Service to ensure service delivery supports and reinforces the account strategy.
  • Direct and coordinate with Multi-Line Representatives in the field to execute the strategy and call cadence against each account.
  • Direct and lead a team of professionals across departments to execute the strategy, functioning as the central point of accountability for account growth.

Quota Ownership & Performance
  • Own an annual sales quota tied to the combined core and growth account book.
  • Grow both the core accounts and the growth accounts year over year against set annual growth targets.
  • Maintain a high level of organization to track, execute, and report on strategy progress across all accounts.

Essential Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the competencies (minimum knowledge, skill, and ability) required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience & Skills Required:
  • Proven track record in strategic account sales, key account management, or business development, with experience managing accounts of comparable scale.
  • Demonstrated hunter mentality - comfortable driving growth within an established account rather than simply servicing existing volume.
  • Experience analyzing account and order data to identify growth opportunity and inform strategy.
  • Strong working knowledge of Bing Dynamics (CRM) for pipeline, order, and account management.
  • Familiarity with vertical markets relevant to the accounts managed.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and lead cross-functional teams (Business Development Associates, Customer Service, Multi-Line Representatives) without direct authority.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to build campaigns and storyboards.
