GROUP FITNESS COACH

Job Description:

The Group Fitness Coach is responsible for teaching safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes that meet the needs of members, participants, and guests. Reporting directly to the Senior Member Experience Manager, the Group Fitness Coach helps create a welcoming, high-energy class experience that reflects The Athletic Cos.'s commitment to wellness and community. The Group Fitness Coach is expected to teach a minimum of two classes per week to remain in active status.

Responsibilities of this Role:

  • Delivering Safe & Effective Classes: Ensures a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising, teaches classes with proper form and technique, and begins and ends all classes on time.
  • Engaging Class Participants: Arrives in advance of class to greet participants, answer questions, and address concerns; knows the names of regular participants, welcomes new participants, and shares basic exercise information with them.
  • Bringing Energy & Enthusiasm: Teaches with energy and enthusiasm, motivates participants to the best of their ability, and arrives well-prepared with music cued and routines planned.
  • Maintaining Class Areas: Ensures class areas are clean and set according to procedure, and reports any equipment or facility problems to the management team.
  • Staying Current & Prepared: Keeps up-to-date on safety and fitness trends, shares educational information with participants, and completes attendance according to procedure.
  • Participating in Team Life: Participates in team events, attends all scheduled meetings and professional trainings, and performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Must be coachable and adaptable to meet the needs of the program and members.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to work positively with different populations, in groups and individually.
  • Well-organized and prepared to teach classes; able to think independently and develop routines for specific class formats.
  • Ability to keep confidences and practice discernment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, with awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and talk, and to regularly use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Education & Experience:

  • Required: An appropriate group fitness certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, or format-specific certification).
  • Required Certifications: CPR certification.

Additional Information:

  • Part-time position; normal work hours vary to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must teach a minimum of two classes per week to remain in active status.
  • Meets monthly KPIs as set by the Senior Member Experience Manager.
