Job description

Daifuku Airport America Corporation is a subsidiary of Daifuku North America a group company of Daifuku in Japan - the largest material handling company in the world. Our advanced systems move everything from car bodies at auto plants to luggage at airports to packaged goods at warehouses. We are known as experts in engineering, manufacturing, and servicing innovative automated materials handling systems including conveyors, automatic guided vehicles, automated storage & retrieval systems, and integrated controls.

The company is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Supervisor.

Position Summary/ Primary Purpose

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Program Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Design Supervisor will work closely with the Project Engineers supporting project teams. The Design Supervisor is at the same level as Project Engineers. The Design Supervisor is responsible for managing a core group of engineers who execute design deliverables on a department and project level. This includes managing the resources, schedule, budget, and deliverables of the group work. This position also leads a group of three (3) to eight (8) mechanical engineers who are responsible for producing mechanical drawings, mechanical equipment designs, direct and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, and installation. The Design Supervisor will also keep tight control of the CAD database.  This includes revision control, change bulletins and occasional training on design changes which impact the department.


Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Staff allocation and utilization, personnel development, talent development.
  • Group work product, quality adherence and standardization for consistency.
  • Process development and efficiency improvements
  • Work with peers within the department, in other departments, divisions, shops, and vendors.
  • Works to achieve overall objectives at an optimal cost.
  • Estimates number of employees needed and schedules work across multiple projects to meet completion date and technical specifications.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Develop and maintain department standard drawings and associated job specific detail drawings.
  • Develop and maintain department standard tools such as conveyor manifest, power transmission, modular CCIT (Conveyor Component Information Table) format, CAD standards, blocks and icons.
  • Develop and maintain department work procedures, checklists.
  • Drive innovation and utilization of new components and technologies.

Education & Experience Required

  • BSME or equivalent technical degree or work direct work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in lead design & estimating industrial equipment in one or more of the following fields: robotics, automation, unit handling, chain conveyor systems, electrified monorails, design or castings & forgings & manufacturing fabrication processes.
  • Requires strong communication skills for customer/ supplier contact.
  • Requires minimum 5 years of supervisory experience handling multiple projects.
  • Requires knowledge of & experience using CAE equipment
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk software suite, including AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit.
  • Experience developing and utilizing AutoLISP routines and custom macros to enhance design automation and productivity.
  • Working knowledge of Inventor iLogic for rule-based design and automation.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault for data management, revision control, and collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of file management best practices, including structured storage, naming conventions, and version control.
  • Knowledge of data flow processes from conceptual design through engineering release and integration with enterprise systems such as MRP/ERP platforms (e.g., SAP).

Demonstrated Physical Abilities:

Office - Remain stationery for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; operate a computer and other productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate with others through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence. 

Job Site - Capability of maneuvering through an industrial conveyor system requiring climbing access ladders, negotiating screen guards and lifting and/or carrying objects up to 40 lbs.
